    Windows 8.1 'Ultimate' RTM 64 bit (Pro/WMC).

If I cannot actually purchase the physical disc, then I insist on an ISO being available.

This is not an option, its availability should be mandatory.

All I see on TechNet is the Enterprise trial, and that's not satisfactory for my needs.

So, is an ISO coming, I wonder? Or not?

Or will I have to rely on a 'leaked' one?

Because, as I said, not having one isn't an option for me.

TechNet is a subscription service. If you are a subscriber you can download the Windows 8.1 with update ISO. If you are not, the only available download is trial software like the one you mentioned. There is no Windows 8.1 trial other than Enterprise that I know of. In the past Microsoft has not offered a free ISO download, not that I know of anyway. I hope they break that trend but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it to happen.

That being the case, the 8.1.1 update should be made available as a downloadable .exe or self-extracting archive, along the lines of the XP Service Packs. One of the 8.1.1 previews I tried actually was in this format (sadly it would not install on this machine).

For those with no internet, or a slow or bandwidth-limited connection, this is more than just common-sense, it's pretty-well essential.

In a closely related issue, I have also found it impossible to source standalone SP installers for Vista (any ideas??). Every link I've tried leads to a pirated copy of Vista with the SPs included, and that's not what I want. And downloading 2Gb or more of Service Packs every time I re-install simply isn't going to happen. Hence my Vista setup runs no SP at all.

    Not good, MS.

EDIT: I've just discovered that there is indeed such a beast. I was unable to find it previously, but it's now at the MS Download Centre. So, all good.

What if you buy a Windows 8.1 PC after May 13th without the update installed? Will it still be available to download and install?

    Welcome to Windows EightForums, williamsjesse17.

Yes. It should update right away via Windows Update. Do you have it set to automatically download and install updates?

Perhaps more precisely can not get more support from Microsoft. Reportedly update / patch can only be installed later on Windows with build 9600.17031 or higher.

Wouldn't they have to buy the computer first?

LOL! That would be quite necessary. I read right past his first half of the question.

I answered him in another thread that it would most likely have the update since OEMs get it way before we do.

You are correct about the computer still being able to update after May the 13th.
