    Hi Shawn,

I'm in the process of 'trouble-shooting' my cosmetic, type errors being generated after successfully installing KB2919355-Windows 8.1 Update. My laptop/system prior to installing this patch was Windows 8.1 Pro/Media Center, and this thread @Microsoft TechNet Windows 8.1 forums explains/shows/pics my present issue:

Windows 8.1 Update-Metro Mail App Issue When Closing App With New '- x' Feature...

Since I have some 'spare-time' on my hand...lol, I'm seriously pondering whether to perform a clean install of Windows 8 Pro (as I now know that I can then do another clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro Update directly from MS store (thanks again)..Once this step has completed, then I will utilize Add/Features to Windows 8.1 Update (of course after all the darn 300+ hotfixes are updated...(for both Win 8 Pro/Win 8.1 Pro), then add Media Center..

Do you think that this is the route that I should go?? Or wait for a response from

    ??? Thanks!

If it's not a bother for you, starting from scratch would be a good idea, Nothing better than a good clean install and than there would be no excuses for upgrade and update not to work. I used to reinstall XP every 6 month as clockwork, just to have fresh system all the time. With Win7 much less and even than if only sorely needed. Now, like I did with W7, I made a full system backup of Win8 as soon as I made sure everything was right and including Office only. Did same thing when upgraded to 8.1 but kept both of them. When I updated first time with 8.1 update I made another full system copy without and before any customizations and that one is now there just in case. If it comes to restoring, that one will be my first choice.

Excellent CountMike (this is what I thought too), but you have confirmed it!
Thank you sir, as I will now have my project for today...lol
Will refrain from indulging in any early AM libations, until my project is complete....with totally fresh Windows 8.1 Pro/Media Center Update files....lol

    Thanks

For the closing issue, it would depend on what you have set in Option Two of the tutorial below to see your Start screen or desktop after closing a modern app.

I think you need to go back to Windows Update and look for one more update. I saw where someone else had this version and went back and got the rest.
