    OK, I understand now.
Do I still need to do the reset now after the update has been installed ?

NO, I missed the post where you got it to work somehow. If you do a reset or refresh now you'll undo what you finally managed to do.

I would like to thank everyone who took the time to help me with this.
Everyone did a lot of research and came up with a lot of good things to try. Maybe it was a combination of all of them, I don't know for sure. The important thing here is everyone came together as they always do on this forum to help a fellow geek when he needed it the most.
I have shown I am not the brightest byte around but I am a geek, always will be.
This proves what I have known for a long time, Win 7 and 8 forums are the best of all !

    Thank you

    UPDATE:

When you update Windows 8 via the Store in OPTION ONE of the tutorial below, it will now upgrade your Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 Update instead of Windows 8.1.

Windows 8.1 - Update to from Windows 8

    Just tested and confirmed.

OK, thanks Brink. I've seen a few other members mention that but haven't confirmed it myself. Now I don't have to.
