    Good observation .. I read somewhere as well that the drag 'n release = suspend which is what the X does now and the drag 'n flip closes the app....thus they should have a "-" minimize = suspend and the "X" should be drag 'n flip.
    That's standard windows behaviour...right?

    Wenda.
    Why not just have the Charm bar available from Alt/C or Win/C? Or at least give us the option to disable it from popping up until asked for (like in Win/C)! Every time I go for something on the right side of my monitor, out pops that silly thing and I have to close it and start over with what I was doing.
    There is an option for that. Right click Taskbar - Properties - Navigation and clear the first item. On my system I have to go to the right-bottom of screen to get the Charms bar.

    I've done that on all my PC's. It was particularly annoying on my desktop which has 3 monitors. On my laptop I turned the edge swipes off too. I usually lay my hand on the palm rest and slid my fingers over until I feel the touchpad without looking. I'm right handed so that would always bring up the charms bar.

    Odds are that somebody will figure out a regedit to kill the upper toolbar in Metro apps, eventually.

    I use this reg tweak...

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\EdgeUI]
    "DisableCharmsHint"=dword:00000001
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\EdgeUI]
    "DisableTLcorner"=dword:00000001
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\ZoneConfig\TouchPadPS2\Right Edge Pull]
    "ActionType"=dword:00000000
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\ZoneConfig\TouchPadPS2\Left Edge Pull]
    "ActionType"=dword:00000000
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\ZoneConfig\TouchPadPS2\Right Edge Pull Extended Zone]
    "ActionType"=dword:00000000
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\ZoneConfig\TouchPadPS2\Top Edge Pull]
    "ActionType"=dword:00000000
    PS Obviously backup registry beforehand

    I'll let somebody else try it out, I actually use the new toolbar.

    Alt-F4 is at least as old as Windows 3.1 though (maybe even in DosShell?) - surprised you didn't know that one.

    I've done that, Jim, but frequently I still get the Charm bar if I go to the right side of my screen. And! When I want to adjust the sound and hover over the speaker icon in preparation for clicking on it, out pops da chahm bah! Sheesh!

    What I would like to do is disable the Charm bar so completely that it will only open when I hold down the Win Key and press C. Let me make the decision on how it acts.

    That was what I was getting at Wynona.

    Three options... Desktop interface for those who want that as their default. Metro interface for those who don't. And third option to enable both simultaneously for those like me who use both interchangeably. Makes everyone happy.

    All good.

    Wenda.
    Well, it's almost like that now, take charms out, ad that stupid Start menu and there you go.
    Nah, Count; leave the stupid Start menu in . . . at least you must click on it before it activates. Too much to ask for the Charm bar to have the same requirement?

    Never had a reason to know about it, David. Up until version 8/8/1, Windows always behaved itself.
