They did, it was called windows 7.
Don't worry, they'll get it right 3 days before Win9 comes out.

You see, I like both to be available at once. Just because I boot to the desktop doesn't mean I don't want the Charm bar, hot corners etc or access to All Apps/SS.

    Wenda.
, the more options the better for those that like to change how things work/look

A default setting for those that don't

Why not just have the Charm bar available from Alt/C or Win/C? Or at least give us the option to disable it from popping up until asked for (like in Win/C)! Every time I go for something on the right side of my monitor, out pops that silly thing and I have to close it and start over with what I was doing.

That was what I was getting at Wynona.

Three options... Desktop interface for those who want that as their default. Metro interface for those who don't. And third option to enable both simultaneously for those like me who use both interchangeably. Makes everyone happy.

    All good.

Well, it's almost like that now, take charms out, ad that stupid Start menu and there you go.

Once I've used the X to "close" the app, check in Task Manager and see it's still there, then go back and try to close it from the left upper corner, it's not there to close.

So, once I close with the X, I guess I'd have to go to Task Manager to completely close it? Or just run up to the top left, right click on the app and click close.

    Hmmmmmmmmmm. . .
What I noticed is if I close The Slacker Radio App in mid song with the X, when I launch it again it picks up right where it left off and finishes that song. If I drag it down until it flips and then launch it again, it starts up with a new play list and a new song in the que. That's what makes me think they suspend. They may actually completely close if you wait long enough, I don't know, I haven't bothered to look and see.

There is an option for that. Right click Taskbar - Properties - Navigation and clear the first item. On my system I have to go to the right-bottom of screen to get the Charms bar.

I wouldn't call it Service pack, just updates mostly for cosmetics, 8.1 was more like SP.
Update 1 actually contains all the updates from 8.1 release through Feb updates but if your system already had them it would just update what was new. This should make a clean install of 8.1 easier to update.
