I suppose if I knew what the problem was, I wouldn't have the problem...

What really frosts my apricots, is that it takes so long. It goes through the install process, goes through the setting up computer process, and only when complete does the error msg appear saying it could not complete changes, so it is undoing... please don't shut off your computer....

    Hi there
Computers are strange things -- in the past I've had the IDENTICAL OS installed on 3 IDENTICAL machines -- but one of them just wouldn't network properly even though (apparently) hardware and software was identical.

I have to admit though the W8.1 update in my case was one of the smoothest ever -- I've since done a re-install because it was about time I cleaned up Windows -- certainly no probs at all -- using ENTERPRISE x-64 version

An idea for you might be to restore to previous state, clone to a VM and try updating the VM and see what happens.

    Cheers

Do I need to say how this affects my already stellar opinion of win8....????
Hmmm. So, that means if we go over to let's say 7F, we won't find users that have any updating problems?

I see you're trying your best to ignore me.....
Not sure what you're trying to say.
What I'm saying is that it doesn't matter what OS it is. Some people will have problems with updating a system do to a faulty system, not the update itself. If the update is faulty, then absolutely no one would be able to update with it. Yes?

So far as ignoring me > You didn't come back on my last dig about your system and customization apps.

Sincerely sorry to read you're having a problem getting the update.

I may just decide to do a clean install... at some later date.
As I recall, I could not install 8.1 while my usb seagate drive was installed.

Mind you, it is kinda pointless, for me, because as soon as I install it I would just modify it to look and feel the way I like it. So, it's kinda like re-arranging the deck chairs, on the Titanic...

What's really odd, is from the control panel, it says no updated available....(I had downloaded the kb's...)

How much tweaking and customizing of your system have you done to make it more like Windows 7? If you've done a lot of regedit's, custom mods, or installing third party programs to modify the UI it can mess things up. If that's true its hardly fair to blame the Windows update process for any errors that show up.

    Not really all that much.

    Disable uac via reg
    Classic shell
    Fix taskbar to resemble xp's

    But that's it.

Edit: I may have disabled a service or two.... re-enabled, and not update has appeared in the control panel.

The updated ISO is currently available on MSDN for customers who have access. The updated ISO will be available for Volume License customers on 4/14. Based on what I'm hearing right now, e-distributors including windows.com and microsoftstore.com should have updated ISOs available by 4/30.
I think you'll find that none of those will be easily obtainable for the average Joe. If that's what your thinking. I do believe all of the above are paid for services.
