    I just gotta remember what I did to the registry to reverse it...
    You didn't back up your registry?

    I've had issues in the past due to UAC being turned off, and that was just with the slider. No regedit. I think I was installing Office 2010 on Windows 7. Outlook was doing weird things when trying to import a PST file. Turned UAC back on and all was good. Things like that shouldn't happen but they do.

    I just found the following and thought folks here would be interested. Kyle Blagg, Microsoft, made the following statement in answer to someone who asked why we don't have ISOs. April 30 is still three weeks away, but better than nothing.

    The updated ISO is currently available on MSDN for customers who have access. The updated ISO will be available for Volume License customers on 4/14. Based on what I'm hearing right now, e-distributors including windows.com and microsoftstore.com should have updated ISOs available by 4/30.

    Well, tried again with uac turned back on all the way. Failed again. I hereby declare that this so-called update has achieved "festering turd" status.

    Do I need to say how this affects my already stellar opinion of win8....????

    Hmmm. So, that means if we go over to let's say 7F, we won't find users that have any updating problems?

    I see you're trying your best to ignore me.....

    @HippsieGypsie

    The updates work just fine whether on 7F / 8F or even 9F. !!

    Not sure what people's problem is.

    The only difficulty I had is that the ISO's are a bit confusing as they can't seem to UPDATE a system even though the menus seem to allow for an update (even from W8.1 - not from W8).

    There are the same update files on TechNet as Windows update if you want to update manually.

    Clean install using the ISO's was just fine.

    What I can't understand --and this is REALLY BOVINE is why people just don't take backups before doing anything like an update. There's enough FREE programs around to do this - although I use a commercial program (Acronis).

    At worst it should only take around 30 mins or so -- time well spent if the update doesn't go to plan so you can always restore your system.

    How is it so many knowledgeable people -- they probably FORGET more things about Windows than I'll ever LEARN in my entire lifetime - just don't take backups. (These days nobody should keep data etc in the same partition as the Windows OS).

    Cheers
