en windows 8.1 with update x64 dvd 4065090.iso
That's not going to let you install just the update by itself. It's going to give you the normal install options that any other Windows 8/8.1 DVD does. You may get an upgrade option but it may do more than just install update 1. Be careful what options you chose so you keep your installed programs and Apps.
well so I assumed, like I said all I can do is test it, its why I have a full image backup............ if it gives me the same options as it did when I upgraded W7 , where I was able to retain all my programs its OK, if not hell with it. I'm sure some one will find the reason that many are having the update problem only with this update 1. All other updates d/l and install fine.
Hoody, the fact that you've updated from Windows 7 to to Windows 8/8.1, may be your problem. Generally, when upgrading from one operating system (Windows 7) to another (Windows 8/8.1), any and all problems inherent with the original OS will be brought forward to the new OS. It's always best to do a clean install when "upgrading" from one OS to another (Win 7 to Win 8).

Also, are you sure the place you downloaded your ISO is fully trustworthy? Was the speed problem on your end or the download end?

?? man look homes, I know you mean well, but this OS has been fine since I installed 8, than 8.1, than ALL and every update from MS, I didn't USE the burned ISO yet, I just went through the usual MS updates, and as I stated, ALL updates went swell, except for this dumb A update 1. besides doing a "clean" install wouldn't be like keeping ALL my old settings and programs.

ain't no way I would have even upgraded 7 to 8 had it not been for the ability to retain ALL my programs.

Anyway, I'm gona test that w8.1 with update 1 iso next. It may not matter much since this time I'm just re installing 8.1 w/update over my 8.1

I don't have all the updates listed in this forum, yet I can boot to desktop and have the store icon on the taskbar. Where can I look to see if it says 8.1.1 ..

OK am running that install DVD I burned, one thing is its like the deal before when you had the W8 ISO and burned a install DVD,it won't run with your usual paid retail pro key, it needs some usual MS install key to run, than you can activate it with your retail key. its takin a bit of time, so I'm usin my old vista machine to post this. I'll let ya know what happens if you want. So far it installed, rebooted, and is setting up.

btw to Wynona, it installs like the one I had for W8 when I upgraded my 7, it does ask how you want to install, ie keep everything, or clean. so I let it rock n roll

Open regedit and go to HKEY_LOCL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion. Then look at BuildLabEx Is it 9600.17041?

EDIT: It's actually still 8.1 not 8.1.1, 8.1.1 is just something some of use called 8.1 with update 1

Yes, technically it's not correct to call it 8.1.1 but it is a convenient terminology for easy distinction between pre and post-updated versions.

Yeah, most here know what it means when we say that. Some new members might wonder why their System Screen still only says Windows 8.1.

Here's the kicker - you MUST install Update 1 if you want to continue to get security updates after May, 2014! How do you like that, considering that some of us can't install it?
"Failure to install this (Windows 8.1) Update will prevent Windows Update from patching your system with any future updates starting with Updates released in May 2014 (get busy!)"

And now you tell me, Alpha! Sheesh! At least I got a good laugh at myself, or you, as the case may be. Folks have been calling it 8.1.1, so I just figured . . . I have seen it called Windows 8.1 Update 1 too. I think?
