    Well Now, That was painless!

    887.6 MB Download -11 min
    Installation - 4 min
Restart to Logon Screen - 4 min

    Entire Process < 20 min

Encountered no issues after a couple hours of messing around

First thing I did was Unpin the Store Icon from the task bar

There were a couple of small updates after the big one.

Wow! I thought 929GBs was a lot! Thanks for posting your numbers.

I tried to see what each update was for, but I opened the second and it linked to a page that was moved?!! I'm tired and disappointed, so I gave up. I don't know if I want to look at 8.1 anymore.
Hippsie you sure you don't mean MBs (megabyte) since GBs is gigabytes which is 100 times larger. Trust me, you'd have to be downloading a MASSIVE amount of data to hit 939 gig! You could download over 300 copies of Windows 8 for that

Computiac, I've got the same error. What did you do? Did you find a solution? Tx.
    No solution yet.
I did run Disk clean with Admin.rights, which includes the Windows update cleaner and now trying to install the update again.
If this will not work, I'm out of idea's.
Update failed again, different error code this time; 80073712

But it's not installing, it's taking too long but nothing is happening.

Is it happening when downloading from Windows Update as well?E

EDIT: Now the download has finished and the update is being installed, let's see if it doesn't get stuck.
I did mine thru Win Update, it took nearly 2 hours to d/l and install.

Yes, you're correct. I guess I was excited, in a hurry and typed GBs instead of MBs.

I think your windows component store is corrupt. Try running these.

DISM to Fix Component Store Corruption:
DISM - Fixing Component Store Corruption in Windows 8

Try running scannow at least three times:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - Run in Windows 8

Error Code 0x80073712 occurs in Windows Update or Microsoft Update

Still don't need those stupid Xs!
You talking about the ones in the upper right corner of apps? StarFerret says they're 'licious! Actually, I like 'em if for no reason than to get out of something I didn't intend to get into.

Oh, and I just discovered that if I'm on the Metro Interface and slide the mouse down to the bottom of the page, I get my QuickLaunch, Programs toolbars as well as the taskbar! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Yes, those are the ones. Gawd! There ruining Modern/Metro by polluting it with traditional crap! At least they're hidden and I'm not a mouser, so I won't see them much, but just to know they're there makes me nauseous.

Then look at this! A task Bar on my Start Screen!!! %#*$!!!! And I keep mine to the right. I have been for years! The task Bar over the Charms bar!!! OMG!!...uck...uck...Excuse me....uck...uck....I must needs go throw up!

Tell us how you really feel, Hippsie! I know how you feel, though, because I require a completely clean desktop with nothing showing on it. I absolutely abhor the Metro Interface! That's why I like the taskbar finally showing up and the Xes to be able to get rid of what I didn't intend to open in the first place.

So, I guess it's different strokes . . . and all that rot.
