OH. Allot I know by OEM disks with a new hard drive or CDRom because they save $100 - 150. That's a shame.
I always buy OEM. I don't need a plastic box with a pretty picture, not when the pretty picture and plastic box adds up to $150

The real problem is that Windows 8 has been nothing but a series of poorly received betas....

Has anyone seen an OS change so much? And most people still don't like it. What a joke....

Other Microsoft operating system had multiple beta releases. They just weren't available to the average Joe, like the Preview builds of 8 were. Most people didn't see them or all the changes that happened in each build. In the past only Beta testers got to se them. Beta releases like Preview builds are unfinished products, what were you expecting?

A nice, clean service pack .ISO would have been much better and could be downloaded at leisure. Clear HW ans SW requirement change explanations would spare a lot off people "stress" and confusion about upgrading. I see MS's public relations, marketing and top management (Ballmer) as the main culprits for the mess about otherwise fine OS.
IF ONLY where we're at with Xbox One, Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 8.1 in October of 2012 altogether....

I had various iterations of Win 95 betas for a year before I waited until 2 AM to buy release version, installed it same night and found ( to my great consternation ) that beta was better. Later on I found that there was some flap about parts of Norton in final version.

    Windows 8.1 'Ultimate' RTM 64 bit (Pro/WMC).

Maybe it's just me, but daily 'updates' and pseudo-mandatory new OS versions every 6 months are REALLY starting to make me angry.

I want to be able to update what and when I choose to, and once every three years is just fine for a new OS build.

Instead, sadly, I'm slowly but surely losing interest, the way computing seems to be headed.

    Another "W8 series" fiasco?

It seems like MS hasn't learned from the previous W8 -> W8.1 upgrade debacle.

I think that Rxd meant the RTMs are effectively Betas.
