    Fail.

Why would a company spend the money on a Chromebook to run Windows apps when they can purchase an actual Windows maching for the same price? Even tablets on Bay Trail can be had for close to $200 these days.

lol better question is: why on Earth would anyone use anything from one of the greatest spying companies in the history of the planet? Not that M$ is much better, but at least it is not their core business model.

    Hi there
if EVERYTHING is open then think of the money one could save -- no need for hugely expensive agencies like CIA etc anymore.

However there's also a DOWNSIDE to this -- most decent tech has been driven by Military needs rather than the purely altruistic. Commercial efforts (even to the base GREED instinct in people to amass almost obscene amounts of money) don't yield the same progress usually because of the huge up front initial startup / development costs. Most countries - even those with HUGE poverty problems find enough to bankroll the military with "LoadsaMoney". India for example has both a space program AND a nuclear weapons industry while Pakistan has a Nuclear weapon capability --even though both these counties have MILLIONS of people living possibly in worse poverty than the poorest African state.

Chromebooks - probably like Netbooks have had their day -- with smart phones and tablets providing relatively cheaply anything that a chromebook is capable of - why should anybody even THINK of buying that type of device, regardless of who makes it.

    Cheers

I have a Chromebook, and I use Google Chrome. I use gmail for my email, and I have a Google Apps account for my family to use. I search exclusively with Google. And I have a Google based Android phone. I have no concerns using Google at all.

Well, at least you can say you're informed about it. You've made your choices and I'm quite sure you've had knowledge before you've done so, being that you're an IT dude etc...

Well, I'm one of the people that _don't_ works proffs with PC, and I'm also using Chrome and Gmail. If Google want to spy on me, let them by all means. They will get bored to death quickly.

The link mentioned a pre-beta Windows 9, so basically an alpha build of Windows 9? It would probably be more of a working concept of the improved metro designed UI. I'm expecting to see a new window management system, this overlapping windows things is a tad tired....
