Is the date updates are available location dependent ? It took two days for them to be available in my neck of woods.
Anyway it went down smoothly once I got them offered..

Just curious......did anyone else get an icon added to their taskbar for Skydrive? It suddenly appeared in all my home pc's after yesterdays Windows Updates.

Yes, same thing here, when opened it wants to sync my Documents, Pictures and Public folder. Got to get rid of it somehow.

You should be able to unpin it from the task bar, no?

W8.1...18 Updates.....after updates a message appeared on screen...DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION....did a scannow which indicated an error unable to fix....tried Recovery twice without success....put W8 installation disc in hoping it would not reinstall W8 as I have W8.1...that would entail massive updating before I could reinstall W8.1.
finally managed to correct....checked CBS logs, far too long to make sense off....finally checked scannow again... OK.
Was this due to the updates?

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.
I'm not using SkyDrive and notifications are off, since beginning. Maybe it will be gone on next boot.

No. It is possible than an update behaved like a spotlight on your existing issue though, which pointed it out to you.

It is not possible for any of those procedures you've listed to fix the problem.

If you'd like to fix it, visit the BSOD subforum and see Brink's sticky thread there.

Thank you for your suggestion which I might have used earlier if I had known.
As stated inserting my W8 ISO managed to fix the problem, and that my worries about rein-storing W8 instead of W8.1 were unfounded.....I really wondered whether it was the updates that caused the problem in the first place.

Icon appeared in my taskbar with installation of KB2923768 yesterday. I found a simple way to remove it (Skydrive Icon) - and didn't have to mess with registry. But, you can't hide it or remove it from taskbar in a "normal" way as you can other icons . The procedure in the link below seems simple enough. If it causes problems, it's easy to reverse. Will share it with you, but take no responsibility for what it does or does not do.

You're welcome. Simply inserting the ISO cannot fix stop errors either, so the offer stands indefinitely.

There is no tool on the ISO or otherwise that analyzes stops and repairs the cause(s) besides perhaps boot stops. (If you had that, you would not have been able to get to Windows.)

I have successfully corrected the DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION by doing the following.
Hold Shift and restart computer.
The Choose an Option screen appears
Click on Troubleshoot then Advanced options
This asked insert ISO.
Immediately it recognised I had a legal copy and with no further act on my part successfully repaired then stated where CBS Logs report were located, and to restart computer.
I then did an admin Command Prompt with Scannow, which reported a clean bill of health.
Have checked Scannow twice since and each time AOK.
