Google Now, coming to a desktop near you via Chrome beta

The notification system that will tell you when you need to be somewhere is now coming to desktops as well as mobile.

The desktop version of Google's intelligent personal assistant, Google Now, is due this week.

Google Now is a virtual assistant that aims to anticipate any information users may need from weather reports to football scores or flight delays.

According to Google, users of the Canary build of the Chrome browser have been able to access a test desktop version of Google Now for some time, but now it will be available for Chrome on Windows and Apple OS X, as well as Chrome OS.

It really burns my buns that google can port "Now" to the iphone and the PC, yet they can't see their way to make it available for older versions of Android. My phone is stuck at Android 4.0.3 (not that old!) and Now is not available for it.

    Sorry, just venting.

YouTube and others still won't play while minimized or in the App Switcher! (Windows 8.1.1)

This might be what finally forces me to migrate from Firefox, at least on my tablet.

You might want to do a search on xda-developers, I'm pretty sure Google Now has been made to work on ICS, as long as you're ok with rooting, etc.

Thanks for the tip. I looks doable, but it means delving deep into the world of rooting and ROM replacement. I'll have to decide if it is worth the effort.
