Windows 8 Consumer preview Released

  1. #111

    My download speed is 25mbps,
It took 2 hours from running setup.exe to copy files to USB 4gb cruzer edge, then I dual booted, product key is the same for everyone, surprisingly tiny small system

I do believe that is because the included updated version of Windows Defender now does what Security Essentials does. The new Windows Defender replaces Microsoft Security Essentials, so if you are doing an upgrade you will be prompted to uninstall it. I got the same message when trying to do an upgrade from Windows 7. The update install failed "for an unknown reason", so I did a clean install. I'm still not liking Windows 8 that much. Is there are mandatory 3 to 5 mouse clicks to do anything rule or something? Microsoft must think you are going to like it so much that you'll never shut it down, else why would they make it such a pain just to turn your PC off?

You don't really have enough RAM to run it well in VMPlayer. I see you are already into dual booting so that may be the way to go.

I have the 64-bit version running in VirtualBox and the 32-bit version running in VMWare Player (latest versions of both, complete with latest additions). I personally never mess with dual boot anymore, virtualization lets me have many more options than dual boot.

Things seem to work well although the provided apps are, for the most part, terrible. The solitaire game has to be the worst implementation of that game I've ever used. I uninstalled many of the apps, resized the large tiles and turned off the "live" tile BS.
