Here Are 24 Countries Where Windows Phone Outsells The iPhone (And Why It Does)
Statistics may say Windows 8 is a flop but, contrary to popular opinion, Windows Phone is far from down and out in the battle for our mobile affections. In fact in many parts of the world sales are rocketing past the iPhone.

The no flash is somewhat of an annoyance, but otherwise, it has been perfect for my simple needs. I got a kick out of telling a guy who bought a windows 7.5 phone recently for a discount at 70USD, while my Win8 phone was 50USD.

I was seriously considering buying the Lumia 521 from T-Mobile as there was a deal where it ended up costing only $30 US after a mail in rebate. I wanted it just because it was that fine of a deal!

Surprising that Windows Phone hasn't been considered a flop even though it's growth and size isn't as huge as Windows 8.1.

    Such a pessimistic view!

Honestly, in the US, Windows Phone has done so poorly, but I'm not too surprised. It basically comes down to the fact that yet AGAIN, Microsoft, nor att, nor verizon, nor T-Mobile have been marketing Windows Phone at all just like how it was with 7. There were some initial ad campaigns for Windows Phone but it's all but diminished. They're just not effectively showing why Windows Phone is better. This right here pisses me off to no extent, they have a great product, but can't show why or how or do it in such a way that the message comes across. If I were to work at Microsoft, it would be marketing Windows Phone!

Also not too surprising is how the platform is doing decently well in Europe, and again, emerging markets. The problem I saw right off the bat was the top-down approach of shooting for high end hardware with the 920. What Microsoft will be doing with 8.1 is correct with tweaking the UI and hardware requirements to allow OEMs to swap low and high end android handsets to Windows Phone real easily if they drop the licensing fees for it. The top-UP approach and target volume is the best way to go here. The US market is negligible compared to Europe, Asia, India, Brazil, Africa, the moon, and other markets. From looking at Nokia's sales, a LOT of it was from their lower end Asha hardware. That's where the cue should have been taken from to begin with.

But hopefully, Microsoft doesn't screw up Nokia's hardware division and continue the legacy of awesome and colorful and innovative hardware.

Still kind of regret not buying that 521... The ability to have almost 70 gigs of total storage with that SD card was such an awesome prospect...

Dual Boot: Back to W7 and Ubuntu 12.04

I gave up on my Lumia 920, gave it to my mother in law and used her upgrade to get a note 2.

It was a fast device and didn't crash........However there was no VPN, No Team viewer, No Square register, No good youtube, no nook app, etc..... Not to mention the broken factory reset. I literally had to exchange my phone 3 time because of a bad OTA. These were frustrating to me and killed my whole love for it.

The ecosystem and apps are just awful and nonexistent.

To be fair, they are starting out late in the game, going up against two very successful and entrenched entities in Apple & Android. It's gonna take some time for them to catch up. I've never used a windows phone, but I'm sure it is as viable as the others.

Just got my wife that phone and also a 64g flash drive so I know it does take a flash drive. Flash drive for Nokia 520 - Amazon.com: Zectron UHS-1 64GB SDXC Micro Class 10 Memory Card for Nokia Lumia 520: Computers & Accessories

TeamViewer exists, a Square alternative exists on both Windows Phone and PC called Innerfence, MetroTube is the best youtube app out there (don't count on google for that one..), for some reason Nook isn't there but on Windows 8.1... Weird.

I've had to reinstall the ROM on my 920 when I did a reset last year, it was kind of a pain but not terribly difficult. The fact that the in-system reset feature doesn't work as well as on Windows.

Windows Phone 8.1 will in fact have VPN support. When Update 1 and 8.1 release, the WinRT code between the two platforms will be like 77% similar which is fantastic. Problem is of course, they were lateish to the game, but they're really catching up. 2013 was such a great year for Windows Phone, the only REAL problem left is marketing...
