Hopefully version 9 will fix the issues brought on by windows 8. Even with windows 8.1 it didn't fix most of the issues with windows 8 such as visual cues and a more friendly UI. The metro is fine for touch but if you are using a mouse to navigate the control panel and such it was much easier with windows 7. It's like the purposely went to hide stuff and make it harder to access the interface and functions.
I wish you people would stop complaining always about just the start screen. There is more to Windows 8 than that. Have you even bothered to see under the hood of Windows 8?
I don't know about you, but I don't have ANY problems with the start screen with mouse and keyboard. I find everything easily, faster than I ever could on Windows 7.
Oh and not only that, but Win8 outperforms Win7 on my machine. There's an enhanced scheduler that improves performance quite massively. I can multitask a lot better and my games run better on Win8 than they ever did on Win7.
Exactly. I agree.
But what I do want to see in Win9, is a return to the desktop.
All OS's need a desktop to be fully functional.
Sorry, but, I don't care who tries to claim it, they aren't getting all of their work done on an iPad or Android or ChromeOS.
Full on Multi-Tasking requires a Desktop environment.
This is not possible with Full Screen Apps, or split screen. Sorry, but it isn't.
Had they taken the desktop away completely from Win8, I would be on-board with everyone else about the negatives.
I would be complaining right along with you.
But they didn't, they didn't cripple it either, it's a nice big improvement over Win7 even. And massive improvement over WinXP.
I enjoy much of the integration with sharing across platforms using things like Skydrive. Huge improvement in that.
Extremely Quick access to my email using the Mail App, and Contacts App synching between all of my systems and phone?
That is Huge.
However, the Mail App and Contacts App do need some more improvements.
Such as Collapsible Folders. There are some others that I can not think of at the moment.
But, the Mail App and Contacts App work very well as is.
Can you do that on other systems? I am sure you can to some degree, but we aren't talking about other systems, we are talking about Windows, and these things are nice improvements and additions over what has been available in the past.
I do hope they make the needed changes to Win9.
Let me have Windowed Apps on my desktop if I want, or run them as full screen and be able to swipe them in and away as needed.
Give Native Multi-Desktop support like
CubeDesktop, and give multi gesture support for touch.
And if not,, let CubeDesktop run smooth and integrate with Windows.
Mac has something similar, and to be honest, it's pretty sweet. Should be in Windows.
As for Customizations, Windows has never really approved of or given much ability to customize much in Windows, ever.
So, we have ALlllways needed to look at 3rd party apps. This is nothing new.
And that is where these come in....
Talisman Desktop
WindowBlinds
Rainmeter
There is a lot of things you can use, this list is an extremely small portion of what is out there and possible.
Win8 is a solid OS, extremely functional as it is, yes it needs improvements, but it's getting a bad wrap for no real reason at all. The reasons are petty, ill-informed, overtly egregious, spiteful for the sake of being spiteful.
Many articles that are written, are so blatantly anti-Windows it's not even funny.
The consumer is being railroaded by the ones who think they know what they are talking about, cause someone told them what they thought, but most likely spent less than 5 min using it, and really they are just paid shills for what are called Article Advertisements.
But, a lot of the blame lay with Microsoft, for horrible Advertising.
I need to get into Advertising, cause obviously it doesn't take a lot of intelligence.
Anyway, Win9 will be fun to watch for. As will the next WP8 update.
