I've also installed that update & checked the activation date for windows (today) but Winver still shows 11/3/2012 as expiry date. This copy is Win8 64bit.
I would agree with that, that must be a error showing the date of Jan 2013.

After a second reboot expiry date is now January 2013....

I have this update installed and it shows the expiry date as 15/01/2013, but it's irrelevant as Airbot says because of the CP release in a few days. So, don't worry if you can not update and extend the expiry date as the CP version will expire on that date as well.

If the CP (Beta) is coming come Feb 29, 2012, why extend the expiration date of the DP all the way to Jan 2013?

Seems unnecessary, unless I'm missing something?
There is a difference, with the Developers preview there are tools included to build Window 8 programs, and Microsoft knows that
these folks need more time finishing up open project they have going. The Consumer Preview is just that, for regular windows users to check out the upcoming Windows 8 O/S and the Metro interface. The CP will be more end-user friendly than the DP version is.

I'm sure they just extended it because the CP is the same code branch and they are for all intents and purposes setting the CPs expiration date.
