Start Menu Orb Hidden In Latest Windows 8 Builds

PC users who are buying a new computer with the Windows 8 operating system, and those who are upgrading their existing versions will have to cope with quite a few major design changes over previous versions of the Windows operating system.

The new Metro UI interface obviously makes the top of that list. Tech savvy users who follow the development of Windows 8 are still not sure whether it will improve their workflow on desktop systems. The Windows 8 Beta, which will supposedly be released later this months, should give everyone an answer to that.

This is really rough for Desktop users.

I ask, can't those icons be on the lower left hand side, where they have been, but with the Start button be where it always has been? You can have the hover to activate the charms and all, but not hot corners. I do not like that at all. I like how the icons are metro like, much like Windows Longhorn would have had it. Actually, thinking about this, my idea would get rid of the awkward hover menu of the Charms bar since the text on it covers over the taskbar and all. A simple column of icons, or Charms if you call it, would be ideal. Yes.

Huh? You write like the people who use them are feeble creatures with brittle bones that will crack if they move the mouse two inches too far to whatever side they're supposed to stay on. The little rectangle to go to the desktop on 7 is on the lower right and it's just fine. I don't care if this stuff is on the left or right. My problem is the icons themselves. Too bland and/or vague. What's the second one from the top? A Phiten necklace? If they let you customize those dumb things, great.

By Desktop users, I mean users of the Desktop view. I already understand that some people find the Start Screen to be a HUGE change to Windows that makes it feel impotent to some, but flat out removing the famous Windows icon from the Desktop View, that is rough, for everyone. I'm going to assume this is from one of few beta escrow builds, so I'm not going to totally freak out about this, but if this is going to make it to the Consumer Preview build, WOW.

I think the icons are ok, they look more modern, actually Windows Longhorn had a Start icon that was a simple white icon. I would like to see those Charms be where they're at in the DP build but without the text, so it'll be a condensed stack of icons when you hover over the Start button.

But to complete a thought circle of my ideas, Start flag needs to remain. The Start Screen is a further evolution of the start menu and should be respected as such, not segregated into two separate interfaces that can't or won't have a chance to work together. Or at least those are my thoughts on such...
