Microsoft applies for trademark on 'Mod'

In some countries (like France and Serbia "Metro" also means Subway, Underground, there's Metro Toronto too, meaning conglomeration of municipalities that make the "Toronto Metro Area", there's also a chain of large shopping malls in Serbia. It would be a real mess if everybody started to ban others to use that word. Metro is just a word used to describe something and is in extensive use all by itself, just too much for a company to lay claim to it.

A custom rom manufacturer that publishes a lot of roms for many different Android devices CyanogenMod has been using that name for several year and I believe they have a trademark for that name.

Here in Montreal, our subway system is called the Metro... and we have a chain of grocery stores called Metro as well.(no relation to each other)
