I don't know, it seems it's up to you if it can be a must have, it sure as heck will be on Windows Phone 8.1.

This is something I've seen coming, it's part two of the Natural User Interface, touch and speech. Next hopefully is gesture.

From this article the new Start Menu will come with Windows 9 around April 2015.

This is the release my sources previously pegged as being the one that will see the return of the Start menu and the ability to run Metro-style apps on the desktop alongside desktop applications.
Still get a Windows 8.1 Update this April but looks like Windows 8.2 is dead.

Interesting, the Windowed mode being added to Metro might be good. I personally would like to check that out.

    Hi there.

FINALLY some people are beginning "to get it".

Even new Smartphones have difficulty with the standard Navigation system of just scrolling tiles when you have a large number of apps on the phone and people like Samsung (S4/S3, and the new S5) provide for easy screen switching of these apps (settings==>display (or device - can't remember) ==> enable multi-screen).

A Desktop device using several (often LARGE monitors) needs to operate differently without wasting all that screen real estate ---windowing Metro apps would actually make these far more useful - the current crop are about as useful as a Chocolate Teapot.

Whether or not you actually need a "Classical Start menu" is a matter of preference -- I find using Pin to taskbar, custom toolbars and the odd application pinned to desktop to be how I usually work --even on W7 where a Menu is standard.

What IS important is on the desktop / laptop being able to boot directly to desktop (fine in W8.1) and to be able to use IE in WINDOWED mode (again fine on desktop / laptop). I also need to have many applications open concurrently as I'm always moving data between them.

    Cheers

Everything you say is agreeable. But I am not sure I get the point regarding your entry statement.

Yeah, wimdowed mode would make operations easier. I already got cramps from pushing ALT+F4 to kill those apps.

Well, ok. You know of course, you don't need to close the app (old habits - based on desktop usage). They automatically go into standby mode when leaving them, and it is not necessary to use Alt F4 unless one wants to, right? You could drag/or swipe down from the hand at the top, swipe from the side to exit, close from the task manager, close from the edge UI, or switch / replace from the edge UI. Just a thought.

Sometimes I just want to keep my hand on the (I use a trackball) pointer, and not use the keyboard.

But I get the humor or , maybe, I think.
