See, I have issue with this. The concept made by Jay Machalani has some good ideas, but doesn't answer this: what if I'm using a Surface Pro 2 to edit 4K (or whatever resolution) video files on the Desktop? He said it himself that the Desktop isn't really well meant for touch input, but if the tablet PC I'm using has an Intel i5 processor and 8 gigs of RAM, I'd like to be able to use heavy hitter software like that.

I don't believe in a separation of UI shells. A thing like in Windows 7 had the Aero theme and also the Windows 9x Classic theme, but they were themes, not two separate shells. They both functioned EXACTLY as one another.

This also doesn't answer the question of what UI shell I'd use if I was using my very high end desktop PC I built with a 23 inch touch screen? Do I use the touch first method or the Desktop? What if I need to use Desktop apps like EASEUS Data Recovery or Adobe Photoshop CC? I have to now switch UI shells? This sounds like it would be too much of a hassle and is a huge solution for a small problem.

Welcome back Coke Robot, long time no see, I hope all was well in your absence. If your touch screen has a high accuracy and you can use a stylus does it matter which UI your in? It all comes down to the program you launch from the desktop and the actual hardware you have. If your tablet has a good quality pressure sensitive touch screen and a good quality stylus I would think it would be great for Photoshop etc. Other than the small screen size that is.

All is well thank you. Happy 2014!

It supposedly wouldn't matter what UI I would be in, but if it gets split up into two shells, it seems counterintuitive. If I prefer the Start Screen and the modern apps as they are, but have to use the Desktop for some things the modern aspect is lacking, that to me needs attention. I don't really think using the Desktop with a multi-windowing setup to be ideal on a 10 inch screen to begin with, let alone 8 inch, so to have the modern aspect be jammed into that UI won't really work.

I need to work on an article and some mockups because I've actually thought of something that is more or less of an appropriate solution here.

I'd like to see Metro Apps more like desktop applications. IE, resizable Windows instead of being locked in full screen. Let the taskbar show underneath them also. I know that may sound like a step backwards but that's what would work for me. I have a triple monitor setup and a quick glance is all you need to tell what's in metro and what isn't. The screen running my Metro apps sticks out like a sore thumb. Having a taskbar on each screen showing what's actually running on that screen is handy. Minimized metro Apps are invisible/hidden unless you side swipe for the App Bar.

Please dont bring it back. I dont miss it one bit. I dont see any advantage. I have MyPC pinned to the taskbar and in one click I am where I want to be. When I use a windows 7 machine I am lost.
Old windows: 1. start, 2. all programs, 3. click the program if youre luck, 4. possible click to the folder which contained the exe.
New windows: 1. swipe touchpad right to left or click start, 2. click program if all apps is ticked.
Of course windows 8.1 or pre 8 all can be customized to suit you, but why add more bloating when you could just get over it like an ex.
