Windows XP remains nearly flat; Windows 8/8.1 up slightly

Microsoft's goal of reducing the market share of Windows XP to just 13 percent worldwide by its support cut off date of April 8th is looking more and more like it will miss its target. Newly posted numbers from the research firm Net Applications shows that worldwide, Windows XP is still the second most popular operating system on PCs, claiming 31.22 percent of the market in November. Those new numbers are nearly the same as what the firm showed for Windows XP in October, with 31.24 percent, and in September when it had 31.41 percent of the market. With just over four months to go, it would seem like the over 12-year old OS will be installed on a large percentage of PCs well after the April 8th cut off date.
Windows 8.1 officially launched in October, and Net Applications showed that in November the free update to Windows 8 claimed 2.64 percent of the OS market, compared to 1.72 in October. Windows 8 saw its share decrease to 6.66 percent in November, down from 7.52 percent in October. Combined, Windows 8 and 8.1 claimed 9.3 percent of the OS market share worldwide last month, which is only up slightly compared to 9.25 percent in October.

Looks like the "big mover" was OS X 10.9 (0.84% to 2.42%).

This is just another silly article that really says nothing. Of course XP isn't going to just fall off the grid there are still to many people who enjoy using XP regardless of its support is coming to an end. People will still continue to use it. The only reason Mac OSX is up is really simple the sale of new iPads and some new updated/upgraded Mac hardware has helped it grow a little, which if you look at past records you will see the same thing happen at the outting of new Apple hardware. As a Mac person I welcome this, it will help bring down some prices on Mac related software though at present Apple is giving away some of its best software with the purchase of a new Mac.

Kinda like the only reason w8 has gone anywhere at all is because of OEM sales. Certainly not because people are rushing out to buy the OS.

Windows 7 gains more market share than Windows 8 and 8.1

PC OPERATING SYSTEM FLOGGER Microsoft's 7 still holds more market share than Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 combined.

Even more disturbing, for Microsoft, is that Windows 7 has actually gained more market share than the newer versions of Windows.
Statistics provided by Netapplications in its Netmarketshare report for November show that Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 have gained a mere 0.05 percent, with Windows 8 reaching a satanic 6.66 percent.
This is hardly market saturation 13 months after release. Compare that to Windows 7, which despite being over four years old and just 18 months from End of Life still has 46.64 percent of the market. That's just a tiny increase of 0.22 percent, but it's a clear demonstration that most PC users are avoiding Windows 8.
There are of course several possible reasons for this. We know that the PC market is slowing quite significantly. There are a lot of computer shops that might have old machines in stock. When we popped down to our local independent shop, it was selling Windows 7 at hefty discounts.
Then there are those who buy shiny new laptops and are so determined not to use Windows 8 that they buy Windows 7 separately and downgrade manually.
