Windows 1.0 Is Nearly Identical to Windows 8 – Photo

- Windows 1.0 and Windows 8 sharing the same design? It seems so.
Windows 8 was officially launched more than one year ago, and although you might be tempted to think that people have already gotten used to the Modern UI, this never happened.

In fact, users across the world keep making fun on the Metro interface, claiming that its colorful and boxy design is actually inspired by Windows 1.0. And, to be honest, now that we’re looking at this picture, there might be some truth behind these words.

“Gaudy colors, boxy design. Apps can either run as a small tile or fullscreen. No freely resizable/movable windows,” the picture we’ve found on Reddit claims.

Hi there.

Don't forget the AOL kiddies interface looked exactly like (or very similar to) the Tiles in Windows 8.

Note the AOL is marked Kids Only !! - that must say something about who the "Modern GUI" / Metro is intended for.

AOL missed one here -- how about a "Copyright Infringement" Lawsuit against Ms - that should KILL the wretched tile design once and for all.

Cheers

I like the AOL one better not as plane and flat as Metro.

That desktop, offered by MdMd happens more than you'd think. In my PC service business, I've seen way too many desktops like that.
I try my best to fix it, but some people actually like it like that! I think there's an old saying that goes something like "There's no accounting for taste" ???

But really, Windows 1.0 didn't really flop, it kept updating till it became Windows 8.1, and here we are!
It must have made an impression, because, years later, we're still talking about it. Eh?

I ran Windows 98, which I really liked, till I got an upgrade disk for Windows XP in 2001 (if memory serves).
I skipped Windows ME as an OS for my main system. During the XP install, the installer asked me if I wanted it to reformat my C drive to NTFS and I said "NO". It just didn't sound like a FUN thing to do.
I'm still running XP-Pro-SP3, today, on a FAT-32 formatted hard drive. That gives me more control over what's on my hard drive.

But if someone doesn't like the look of the Metro screen, then by Gawd don't use it! The Classic Shell now jumps right to the Desktop on boot and can be made to look like whatever former OS you liked. I've set mine up to look just like my XP Desktop. Home sweet home!

Cheers Mates!

Hi there
windows 8.1 boots by USER CHOICE straight to desktop - you don't really need Classic shell any more - just make some custom toolbars -- with sub menus too. --EASY screenshot enc with 3 items having sub menus. I've posted on another thread how to set these up easily.

I saw that article on Softpedia and got a hoot out of it. I never ran Windows 1.0, got into the game on Windows 2.0 but still seems to be a step backwards considering all the smart people we have in this world.

To me Win 1 desktop doesn't look nothing like W8, it's just a standard one in that era of low resolution and looks more like Atari TOS. There were no tiles or icons at that time. They couldn't have done things like that.
