Okay, I've a doubt here - what about the ammonia free liquids we get from market when we ask for screen cleaning formula, is it the same alcohol based formula, they're referring to?

Over the past 20 years, I've only had to throw out just a few sticks of ram. Mostly either Kingston or Spectec.
Soap & water? Did it work afterwards?

Ammonia is too harsh for plastics, it's more of bleach, that's why they say it doesn't contain it. Most of those cleaning fluids contain some kind of alcohol, should be able to smell it. On the other hand those liquids have to be non abrasive and relatively mild, have to clean fast without having to scrub or push hard because of soft plastic. Water used to thin it out has to be distilled or at least deminerilized so it doesn't leave marks when it dries out. All together pretty touchy subject and difficult task. Best to turn monitor of while cleaning, you can see better and less chance to get some pixels stuck. For just ordinary cleaning, best is one of those "Micro fiber" cloths eventually just moist with distilled water or distilled water with a bit of alcohol or some of those trusty cleaners just for them. Make sure everybody keeps their pinkies of the screen so there's less to clean. Too bad "Gorilla Glass" is so expensive they don't use it for large monitors. I use concentrated alcohol just in extreme cases because it's practically only safe enough and strong enough to degrease finger marks and get rid of oily nicotine without pushing and scrubbing that can damage matrix in the monitor/TV. Touch monitors have much tougher surface so it's not as critical but still....

I bet it did. Electronic parts are not susceptible to water damage if not powered at the time and dry when connected. We had some fire in the house last winter, some plastic space heater with fan (that stopped) that caught fire and made a lot of smoke. Whole room and most of the house had to be redone because everything was black as night in the tunnel. Anyway, there was a MB in the room covered with black, oily soot. My friend stuck it in dishwasher and it came out clean. After drying it in the sun for couple of days it worked like new (and looked it too).

Drying out MB is really very hard right ? Or is it not?
A MB consists of hundreds of connections and chips isn't it? How will we know if it really dried up before plugging it in & frying.

If after couple of days in the sun is not dry it never will. Just give it a "Smoke Test" and if it comes positive, it's dead.
