Microsoft Expected to Release Windows 8.1 ISOs This Month

Microsoft has launched the Windows 8.1 exclusively via the store, with several company officials explaining that no stand-alone ISOs would be released.

Now it turns out that someone in Redmond had a change of heart, as Microsoft might actually launch Windows 8.1 ISOs later this month.

One of our readers told us that Microsoft’s support staff confirmed such plans, which would basically provide users with a second option for updating, but also with an easier way to perform a clean in

The last GA release still isn't up on TechNet. The Enterprise and VL editions are but the regular Retail is still the RTM. Hopefully that will change and the general public will also get access to the latest ISO's.

After running the 8.1 update and making sure everything was working well I created system images on a couple of spare HDD's. I prefer this method over doing a clean install, because it saves me having to re-install all my other software as well.

That's just it with this new method of upgrading. Those with limited data downloading will have to pay for extra data and those with no Internet connection are left out.

Hopefully MS will indeed release the ISOs. I think it to be a good move.

yup, same page ............. but its also good to have the physical disk just in case, the computer fails to boot to windows or there's no web access available.

I'm wondering now if the ISO MS will or may put out would be the same as the one most of us D/L using that trick thing? or would it be more "up to date"

Hopefully more up to date and closer to an actual retail DVD. What you get though the trick download is Core or Pro depending on what product code you enter during the download. That ISO will only install that one version. A retail DVD is both Core and Pro and can install either one depending on what product code you enter during the install. I'd rather have the full Retail DVD thank you very much.

Will the Windows 8 product key(s) work for a Windows 8.1 direct refresh from an iso?

Change of heart, brought about perhaps by requests from users.

Let us hope it is proper .iso with install.WIM and not that inflexible .esd
