Most enthusiasts will want this, the majority of home computer owners won't care at all and will be just fine downloading via the Store.

While many don't like the store approach, I do see some value. For example, when it bricked some RT devices, they took it down. Prevented more people from having a problem. With ISO's and such they have far less of a chance of controlling this type of problem.

I don't get why OEM's don't just include an OEM reinstall disk (my business dell models do, I pay an extra $3 or so for the media). I have the luxury of having MSDN, via work, so I have access to all media that I want. So, on a box that came with 8.0, I technically have to install 8.0, run Windows update and then upgrade to 8.1 (either via disc or via Store). Either way, take an image when complete and always use this image going forward.

What about the ones who can't upgrade through the store? I never did get the update through the store to work on my Acer laptop. I think MS should allow us to download a ISO and use our OEM key to install.

    Interesting new approach by MS.

7 installation media is readily available from Digital river. 8.1 media is where ?
    ...
Perhaps they want us to buy it:

    Newegg.com - Microsoft Windows 8.1 Back-up Media - (Media Only)

If you cannot find the upgrade in the store, type this in your browser address bar:

    ms-windows-store:WindowsUpgrade

    Takes me there every time.
