We're not talking about a hack. We're talking about a supported, in full view setting in the control panel.

    Please compare apples to apples.
You can't argue that changing the values of MS' Registry keys is unsupported, as MS often suggests the very same techniques to solve various issues.

It was MS' Start Menu code (no 3rd party code was required) and MS removed it.

MS code removed/modified by MS in W8 (some of these items could be accessed in the Control Panel):
    • WMC (not all versions of Windows had it)
    • DVD code
    • Aero
    • Flip 3D
    • Windows Classic Theme
    • Windows Desktop Gadgets
    • Details and Preview panes cannot be enabled simultaneously
    • Built-in Games

The "Kill Ads" code is MS code in Windows and MS ...

    If W8 was "W7 +SP2", businesses would be installing it, instead of W7 or "W7 + SP1".

    8 was consumer focused
MS now has the consumer in it's sights for monetisation. If they can pull it off, they may end up getting in ten times the cash, or more - from the consumer of course, one way or another.
