Microsoft Launches Recovery Image to Fix Bricked RT Tablet

Microsoft pulled the Windows RT 8.1 update from the Store during the weekend after discovering that it bricks some tablets, but the company is still looking into the problem right now.

In the meantime, Redmond has launched a recovery image for Surface RT tablets that would help consumers get back to Windows 8 and make their devices usable once again. As WindowsObserver notes, the Windows 8.1 update is still unavailable at this point for RT devices, but at least you can start using the table once again.

LOL!!!! This is karma biting Microsoft in the butt for not allowing legitimate owners of Win8 to download an ISO of 8.1 rather than the idiotic upgrade process they put in place.

I updated one PC to 8.1 using the store update the day after it was released. I started it off at exactly 2:00 PM local time just to see how long it would take. At 6:15 PM local time it finally quit saying "Just a few more things........" Granted the servers were probably overloaded but the time frame bordered on ridiculous. For the second PC I used the download ISO cheat posted here and did a clean install plus loaded all of my software in far less time than the upgrade took.
