Microsoft to Launch the Latest Windows 8.1 RTM Updates...

Microsoft is set to unveil Windows 8.1 next week, with Windows 8 adopters to be allowed to download the update free from the Store, just like any other application.

The tech giant, however, promised to deliver a new wave of patches just before the public release of the operating system, thus making sure that all computers are fully prepared for the update.

While Redmond hasn’t provided too many details on these updates, they are expected to include a new round of features and improvements supposed not only to improve the overall experience with the operating system, but also to fix bugs and stability issues found between RTM and GA.

From that article, not sure what updates they are talking about. Is MS releasing some additional updates to 8 to make the update to 8.1 better. I think there was an 8 update already to do that. MS has said that when 8.1 went GA next week there would be some updates to 8.1 available to fix any problems with the RTM version. I wish the blogger had a link to his source because he is not very clear.

No, they're saying you can download the 8.1 upgrade through the store the day before it goes on sale at the retail counters on disk.

I thought it was stating that 8.1RTM would be updated before the public release of 8.1. I just had 20 updates this week to my Windows 8.....how many more could there be?

I don't know, could they have made it any more vague? I read it as updates to 8.0 to prepare it for the big final update to 8.1. Updates to help prevent a failed or bad upgrade.

The problem is this is another jack leg Blogger and he probably doesn't understand what MS said.
When MS release 8.1 RTM they said it was not complete and updates would be available at the time of GA release. So after updating to 8.1, look for some more updates probably through Windows Update.

Yep, that makes sense to me. I've read in the forums here of people having issues with 8.1 upgrades as opposed to straight clean installs. Microsoft could be preparing patches/updates to alleviate some of those "upgrade" issues. My guess :confused:

Not everyone wants to, or have the know-how to do a clean install, especially on a laptop/notebook. Also some may not have access to the key. I know my Asus notebook didn't come with a product key easily accessible. In fact I've never seen it, though I know it's embedded somewhere.

Anyway I did a clean install of 8.1 Pro with it's own PID key since my lappy came with W8 non pro edition.

Windows 8 users get a free ride via the Windows store. That is assuming your current Windows 8 install is legally activated and authentic.

I highly suspect one these updates is the ability to set another browser as default and still be able to launch IE11 in Metro UI if not then Microsoft might be screwed if Google does indeed follow through with their developer builds and launch Chrome OS as a part of Metro UI since in order to use Chrome OS in Metro UI users have to set Chrome as default browser system wide.
