Microsoft Insists That It’s Now a Consumer-Shaped Company

Microsoft has changed its strategy ever since Windows 8.1 was officially announced, with outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer and several other top executives within the company claiming that Redmond is now much more interested in customer feedback.

The tech giant has reiterated the same idea in a post on future Excel Web App improvements, explaining that most of the improvements it makes are based on your opinions.

customer/company feedback are playing key roles in the way web-based services are going to look like in the coming years.

There it is again. It is all about web based services.

Saas is digial slavery. For your wallet at least.

Maybe that is a bit dramatic, but I really don't like the push for web serviced software and saas. I've had many products that I have bought once and used for years and years. No additional fees. There is a push to remove that model. Along with it goes the gathering of information. Make an MS account to handle your licensing. . . Give us all your personal info etc. I like to grab something off the shelf and no one needs my life story and all my personal info before I purchase.

If they manage to get enough people into that model - by hook or by crook,

I like to grab something off the shelf

then they can just remove any alternative.

If they continue to cater to the brain dead FarceBook, digital media consume rather than create masses they addressed with 8 they will get enough into that model. It's really sad. I'm glad I'm nearing the end of my career in I.T., it was quite a ride. If I were just entering, I think I'd rather be a golf course greens keeper.

The last straw for me was when they invalidated every single XBLA purchase I've made by switching CPU architecture back to x86. Yep, I'm well aware that I can keep the old console hooked up, but why the hell should I have to? Was there something so dreadfully wrong with PPC, that they just had to make the switch?? I'm sure they did it to ease the burden on developers, so the poor souls wouldn't have to fire up a compiler but geeze.... all those digital games cost a good deal of money!

I've been burned for the last time and will not support digital game distribution beyond cheap mobile phone games. I expect those to be abandoned quickly, not console games.

Microsoft Ind. Admits That It’s Not a Consumer-Shaped Co..

Microsoft has often been accused for not listening to consumer feedback and paying much more focus to its enterprise product lineup, especially since the Windows 8 operating system got to see daylight in October 2012.

The company, on the other hand, hasn’t talked too much about the way it looks into users’ opinions until it actually had to, as Windows sales have dropped so much that Microsoft really had to reverse some of its decisions and tweak the operating system in order to address complaints.

Ever since June when Microsoft officially announced Windows 8.1 Preview at the BUILD developer conference in San Francisco, the Softies started talking about consumer feedback, saying that users’ requests are much more important these days. Hence the return of the Start button and the integration of an option to boot directly to desktop and skip the Modern UI.

The truth, on the other hand, is that Microsoft remains mostly a company that’s based on the enterprise business, and the company indirectly admitted it during a meeting with financial analysts on Thursday.

Let’s begin with a statement of outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer who said that although Microsoft tries to remain a consumer-shaped company, it all comes down to the enterprise business.
