Microsoft responds to pressure over canceled TechNet

Microsoft's decision earlier this year to shut down its TechNet subscription service was sudden and unpopular among some of its most loyal customers. An online petition to "Continue TechNet or create an affordable alternative to MSDN" now has nearly 11,000 signatures.

Today Microsoft addressed some of those concerns. No, the governor hasn't shown up with a last-minute reprieve for the program, which stopped accepting new orders on August 31. But Microsoft has made a few changes that address some of the complaints from those soon-to-be-ex-TechNet subscribers.

Hi Everyone...

Wall Street, and Global Investors Word wide, say Microsoft is on their way out and for good in the very near future....

Microsoft's Stock Is Getting Crushed This Morning As Reality Sets In...

Microsoft is down 4.5% this morning on the news that it's buying Nokia. This Nokia deal is a dose of reality for any investor that got optimistic when Steve Ballmer announced he was leaving the company.
Instead of creating a simpler company that focuses on the enterprise like everyone wants, Microsoft seems poised to become an even bigger, more complicated company with more money-losing consumer businesses.
Xbox barely makes any money. Windows Phone is a money loser. Bing is a money loser. Consumer PCs are in decline (though they make lots of money).
Meanwhile, Office and Servers & Tools are growing, profitable businesses.
The Nokia deal isn't terrible. Microsoft is spending ~$7 billion to acquire its smartphone partner. Odds are that Nokia was going out of business if Microsoft hadn't stepped in. And that $7 billion was just going to be sitting around, since Microsoft wasn't bringing offshore cash back home for tax reasons.
Still, this deal is a reminder that just because Ballmer is leaving, it doesn't mean anything is necessarily going to change at Microsoft.

Bill Gates also agrees that Microsoft will have major pressures in the very near future, and Mr Gates also states that whatever happens from this point on could and will predict the future of Microsoft...

They're not closing down MSDN. MSDN generates them boatloads of money, unlike TechNet. On top of that, MSDN provides production licenses for a lot of tools for the developer, not just testing versions.

I can see them moving the majority of the OS and even a lot of server licenses to their new trial services, but the MSDN itself will not be shut down as this is where all developer information is routed through.

We will see about that is you don't think MSDN wont be touched!!!

Lets wait and see by next 2ndQ or 3rdQ in 2014 if your Windows 8 SP1-8.1 don't cut it, in todays market of show at least good sales, you will see MSDN closing and shut down... Microsoft is in real big trouble at the current time, in regards to Windows 8, and major cases they have lost in the last 10 years...

I bet you sometime in late 2014 and for sure by 2015 we will also read on front page lead story Microsoft will also be putting MSDN Services to bed also and that its all about operating cost cutting...

and with that said by that time also their Smartphone deal and department would for sure be in the ground by 2015, Microsoft will never catch or touch Apple, or Samsung in our lifetime...

And when these two very predicated notes take place, this will be for sure the end of Microsoft as we all did know of Microsoft and you can for sure count on Apple, or Google taking the entire Microsoft Foundation over in the very near future, Only if the Microsoft Board and Shareholders Office want to make a last second buck, and if they don't Microsoft will Vanish and Microsoft Corp, will only be a company to only look back at in History...

As far as I am concerned Microsoft screwed their own selves and many brighter and folks who have hands on in the IT Bizz world...

Microsoft didn't and never has listened to the user, and they always liked to push garbage and more garbage on us and in the Bizz, world, the Bizz world the Enterprise Main Street, folks have made it clear and very clear, that everyone is starting to look for an alternative in regards to their systems and as soon as their support contract is up they will not be going back with Microsoft... anytime soon or anytime in the future...

Enterprise support sucks these days anyways and has for the last 7 years, all these India support Engineers don't have a clue in what is going on and never mind you cant even understand in what they are saying...

Worse of all if and when you get a Windows Engineer from the Windows Engineering and Design that's 3rd level of support God help you as a Enterprise Customer and if you have a Code or App configuration concern or question,,,,, They also have no clue, with that said what is the point of buying 100K to 300k bi-3Y or bi-500k so called top line support where you will never get the right answer and Microsoft with just the name it seems that High and very Expansive support is no longer there and hasn't been there for many years...

Ship up Microsoft or get the Hell out of the market, a good 95% of the global market has had it with you Microsoft...

If you cant handle it sell the dam thing and get the hell out and let someone else carry the dam torch and let the new operator service us...

It doesn't matter one way or the other Microsoft is over!!! Google, and Apple and Others, will make sure to that and matter of fact most of their hardware partners as walking and not signing up with Microsoft and their games and crap, crap, crap...

Sorry folks I have had it with all the jerks and heads at Microsoft, and so has millions of other folks and companies here in North America and all around the world...

Microsoft Change or Sell the Dam thing and get out of the IT Game Once and For All, and the sooner it will be for the better...

Its a Disgrace and Microsoft should be ashamed on what they are trying to pull off and man oh man that Windows 8 what a bunch or garbage, and that's what it will be and only will be, and the so called Windows 8 SP1 Windows 8.1...who are you trying to fool Microsoft???? Free Update??? for garbage???

Microsoft can keep it, I know I wont be and the network of people, and companies that I contract my services out to wont be touching the Windows 8 Nightmare...

Regards,
ExplorerTML

TechNet was a cheap subscription service that did not generate much money. MSDN is not cheap, and costs thousands of dollars per subscription. This is a huge money maker for Microsoft, so they're not going to shut it down.

Like I said, they may well move the OS's and Test Servers to the new TechNet replacement trial system, but MSDN is a lot more than just OS's and Servers.. It's development tools, It's information, API's, SDK's, etc... There is no other mechanism for this, and I don't see them changing it.

Microsoft cannot survive without developers writing applications, and the MSDN has always, and will always be the source of that. Anyone that suggests that this is going away (changed, perhaps, but not going away) is just making things up.

Getting crushed? Down 4% to 5%. That can almost be an expected occurrence for such a deal. It is already on the rise again.

But, like many. I quickly bought some Nokia shares and almost doubled my money (not a great fortune-lol), in two days. Nokia, now being owned by MS, presumably have the same money box.
Hopefully his sour article is fair, but I read that all his previous articles have been in support of Apple?
