Which Web browser crashes the most?

"This is embarrassing..." happened to me on FF every now and than and few times when I was able to trace the problem it was mostly due to Flash and Visual C++.

I guess I am lucky, I can't remember the last time Chrome crashed on me. I went from an old XP desktop to an Acer Win 8 laptop about a month ago, no crashes on either platform. I also used hibernate on the old system and sleep on the new one, so the browser runs for many days at a time without being closed & reopened.

Crashes are very rare here. Remember Chromium did it once but I've went through a lot of newer versions since then.

Depends on plugin's and what has to be loaded on a site as well as the browser's version and type.

I never had IE crashes ever, I use it rarely though. Opera seems also very stable.

I know I can get IE10 to crash on demand, but not sure whether it's a browser issue or website issue. For example the drop down boxes on the Anandtech website will cause IE to crash every single time.

Here's an example, go to the following Samsung SSD review page, scroll to the bottom of the first page article content (underneath the gallery pics, but before the comments section) and select another page from the drop-down menu. IE10 Desktop will crash every single time and log a MSHTML.dll APPCRASH fault.

Following your example with W8.1, IE11, and Enhanced Protection enabled the link works just fine. For that matter, my W7, IE10, and Enhanced Protection enabled works as well.

The Enhanced Protection controls the add-ons/plugins that can cause crashes. In both of my machines the there aren't many of them, just the bare minimum, Java, Flash, Foxit reader, and the MS Office stuff.

    Bad Browsers IMO.

    Opera Stable ---
    Version: 15.0.1147.153

gives me no problems at all.

I saw in the survey he was talking about Opera 12.
I did have some issues with version 12.

Since upgrading to version 15, I'm as happy as a hog eating warm mash.
Since I had problems with IE 10 & Chrome maybe whatever caused the crashes has been fixed.
Just like The problems with Opera 12 were addressed in Opera 15.
    Browsers are constantly changing.

"Browsers are constantly changing." unless the browser is Safari 5.1.7 - in which case it is invariably the same!

IMO there is no "crashing browser". Only bad webmasters.
Correct coding and little reliance on javascript and flash should make it fine on every browser or almost. Alas, today there is so much bloat on the internet that a browser had to be as complex as an entire OS.

Yes.. as a web dev I only use Mozilla based browsers.. had so much problems with IE in the past with their JScript nuances, was just not worth it - They have provided more compatibility since IE9 but still don't see a compelling argument to include it in my conceptual design.

Browser stability tends to depend on a lot of factors, such as what add-ons are installed. Various add-ins can cause crashes, even if the add-on doesn't seem to be currently used. Also, a lot of times a some older app may have overwritten a more recent version of a dll, which causes crashes on one machine, but not another.

Then of course there are the ever present video driver rendering issues that cause crashes, since browsers are so video intensive, video driver bugs tend to have various repercussions.

Finally, there might be malware or other tools (anti-virus, anti-malware, firewalls, system optimizers, etc..) that can "insert" themselves into your system and cause weird problems like that.
