Microsoft confirms Skype will be bundled with Windows 8.1

It's no big surprise, but Microsoft officials are confirming that Skype will be one of the set of Microsoft-developed consumer apps that will be "in the box" with Windows 8.1.

In a blog post on August 15, Ryan Gavin -- the former Internet Explorer General Manager whose new title is General Manager of the newly created Microsoft Apps & Services unit -- confirmed Skype will be among the apps Microsoft ships as part of the Windows 8.1 package (for both Intel- and ARM-based devices). Other appss in that group include Xbox Music, Video, Games, SkyDrive, Internet Explorer, Photos, Mail, the Bing AppEx apps (like Sports, Finance, Travel) and more

If you can uninstall it? They entrenched the Bing search into 8.1 and as far as I know, all you can do is turn it off. They didn't make that easy either, you have hunt though the endless menus and options to disable it and kill the adds that come with it.

The "search charm" integrates searching the web via Bing, that MS named smart search and cannot be uninstalled. No other searches, such as Windows Explorer, applications, etc., integrates with Bing in Windows 8.1 preview. The web search can be disabled through the "Settings\Change PC settings\Search & apps", it isn't that hard and nice of MS to provide that.

What's not so nice is that tracking the searches and their results will continue, even if the web search is disabled. The simplest way to avoid tracking by W8.1 is not to use the search charm, or alternatively block MS server on your router.

It seems M$ have now forsaken suicide on the instalment plan and instead have opted for a quick demise!

It is rumoured that Linux and Mac plan to attend the funeral and with total disrespect will actually be smiling at the service!
