Microsoft Updates the Start Button in Windows 8.1 RTM...

Leaked build 9471 comes with an updated Start button, so right-clicking it now brings up a feature called “Shut down or sign out” that lets you sign out, put the computer to sleep, shut it down, or restart the workstation.

Let me know when clicking on the start button opens up a proper menu. I will get what I want and the tile lovers will get what they want. What a concept! Everybody gets W8 the way they want it.

Well let's hope that with every "SP" we'll get an extra missing menu item...come windows 8.9 or whatever, the full menu will be back LOL
... BTW did they remove the sleep item in order to replace it with the logoff function?

Any Start Button update that does not make the Start button open up a Program Menu is worthless. I'd rather not even have the start button at all.

MICROSOFT ARE YOU ACTUALLY LISTENING, OR JUST CLAIMING YOU ARE?

Same goes for having the safe boot mode come up with just the tapping of F 11.

WE NEED THAT FEATURE BACK TOO!!!!!!

Was going to say the same thing. I still want the original start button and menu to return, though.

i only have win 8 because my old win 7 box completely died, and every new one i looked at came with 8
the first week i had it i managed to make it ,to me at least, look and work like 7.
i got a start button that pops up programs, and apps,as well as links to docs, computer, run, control panel etc, for a $5 donation, something called 'classic shell' that has it boot directly to desktop
i also found and installed windows live mail 2012 so i can send/receive all 4 of my hotmail and 3 comcast accts in one place
i found all this stuff via google, and i am technically inept as they come,so if i can do it,anyone can

I've used Quick Launch for several years, since it came out in Windows XP (I think). Someone here was kind enough to point me to creating the Programs toolbar. And, although mention has been given both of these toolbars, I've noticed quite a few new folks lately, so I thought I'd point them to the...
