Microsoft to Fix Blurry Text Bug in Windows 8.1 RTM Rumo

Windows 8.1 is expected to reach the RTM development stage sometime this month, while general availability is likely to be announced in the coming weeks.

While details on the RTM version are still vague right now, a new rumor spotted on MDL forums indicates that Microsoft might use this build to roll out some essential improvements, including an eagerly-awaited fix for the infamous blurry text bug spotted in both Windows 8 and 8.1.

an eagerly-awaited fix for the infamous blurry text bug
ahh! At last a good move. So far they seemed to just ignore it and hope those affected would stop complaining and go away (tons of posts about it on technet etc, and never any real response from MS).

Edit: some numbers, 3 laptops out of 4 affected here (regarding IE10: close to unusable on all 4 due to the font rendering mess).

    - Hello, I'm Gloria from Microsoft customers care... how can I help you?

    - Hi Gloria. I bought Windows 8 but I cannot use it 'cause I don't see anything... may I have a copy of Windows 7?

    - Oh, I'm sorry but Steve told me ABSOLUTELY NO! Thanks for calling us, bye.

Oh yes, with enough people throwing bricks at them (while others stopping throwing money at them!) over a long enough time period, seems they sloooooowly started thinking (realizing) why, at least in some areas.

I don't know how common it is, but I have this problem. Good to see it's being addressed.

    Rumour only.
Got Win 8.1 here on a new laptop. Native windows GUI and IE are crisp and clear. Everything else is blurry and headache-inducing, especially Chrome

Sorry for all those experiencing this glitch.

Guess I got lucky in not seeing it, or it depends on hardware, the most stable graphics drivers so far here are from Windows update.

But now that I look at the screen more carefully I do notice some differences with the Win7 laptop.

It does seem to have something to do with pixel anti-aliasing, clear-type...

I once had something similar in looks: the screen resolution was 1360x768 instead of 1366x768 (native) and so 6 pixels in the difference made a lot of pixels blurry because they were divided in the width. This is basic compared to the issue in the OP that relates to native resolutions, which should provide crisp clear images already.

I can confirm that M$ did NOT fix the blurry text problem. This is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE for an OS to be released with a bug that was known long before RTM. There could be legitimate reasons for this, though. The leaked version might not be the real RTM. It could also be a driver issue. ...

Hi, I recently got a new computer that has windows 8, and I am having some issues with the icons. Some of them are perfectly fine but some of them are really blurry/fuzzy. First of all, I believe it ain't a hardware issue. Said that, let's proceed. Hi! I've been overclocking my GTX550 Ti for a while, and it never went like this. I always clocked my card to 1GHz proc and 2GHz memories (exactly 1000MHz and 2000MHz), but today I decided to go further and clock the...
