Let's see if this helps. Do an update search on your computer. you will get KB 2901549, IE11 update:

Download details: Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 8.1 (KB2901549) - Microsoft Download Center

Internet Explorer 11 Patch Makes Browser More Reliable in Windows 8.1 | Maximum PC

Now only if it fixes the blurry text.

Better? Nah, my HTPC has a lot of blurred text on the MSN page. No joy. Anyone see an improvement?

2 recent snips from my trusted HP laptop, BBC news. Fresh 8.1 (from ISO), IE11, everything out of the box, all latest updates, no mods.

FF still much sharper, IE = heavy eye strain, so the choice is very simple here.
No problem, I use FF (& Chrome as xtra).

Fonts appear blurry in my apps
I wasn't referring to blurry fonts. That's a totally different issue. I was referring to the claims the IE11 is buggy because it can't render sites correctly. Those are almost always problems with the site itself, and even Microsoft's sites have the same problem (I was on the Microsoft Partner Site the other day and had to use the User Agent trick to make it work correctly, for instance).

Mystere, again interesting but perhaps you and labeeman could create its own support post about this, so as to not confuse the newcomers? Enough of us have proven that it is not site related to make this line of discussion moot on this post.

I was responding to that comment by him. If someone makes a comment in this thread, i'm not going to create a new thread to respond to it. That's stupid.

K, I have found the problem and the solution.

Win8.1 released version does NOT LIKE to have the text size changed. This applies to both the desktop and BROWSERS. For instance, going to the Display page and increasing the text size will cause burred text. So will going to a browser and using CNTL+ mouse wheel to enlarge the browser screen. The browser now becomes blurry (I verified this). The FIX is to check the box on the display section called "Let me choose One Scaling Level". That should fix both issues.

BTW, loading in a new graphics driver will RESET the resolution back to the default, "fixing" the problem.

Many of us who are having the blurry text problem have already tried this many times.
It does not work for me.

    Its Not Just IE11

The text rendering problem this thread refers to is not limited to IE11.

Fortunately, using Firefox, Chrome or just about any non-IE based browser gets around that problem.

However, the text rendering is also just as blurry in Office 2013.
While most of the Office 2013 (desktop) UI renders clearly, open a Word document or Outlook email and the text in the document is blurry just like it is in IE11. Office 2013 is also forcing grey-scale font anti-aliasing on users and ignoring the settings of the OS.

With MS Office, many of us have no choice but to use it for work, so blurry text in Office 2013 is a much more serious issue. So far, none of the organizations I work with have rolled out Office 2013. I dread the day they do.

Microsoft just needs to work more closely with videocard hardware manufactures to get better/updated drivers specifically optimized for Windows 8.1 on older hardware just like they've been doing with touchpad hardware manufactures.

The latest Synaptics touchpad driver for Windows 8.1 really works well on my laptop and has better tracking (previously was too fast and jumpy on Windows 8) and Windows 8.1 specific features that works in conjunction with the new kernel.

Hello, IE navigation trouble is fixed: in 'Turn Windows features on or off' unticked ie11, rebooted. Went back and ticked it, rebooted, chose 'recommended settings', works fine and fast now, am impressed by the speed. So just needed a refresh.

Sadly, the font blur prevails on all my (older and recent) laptops.

I can confirm that M$ did NOT fix the blurry text problem. This is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE for an OS to be released with a bug that was known long before RTM. There could be legitimate reasons for this, though. The leaked version might not be the real RTM. It could also be a driver issue. ...
