Steve Ballmer confesses Microsoft built too many tablets

Steve Ballmer has belatedly and half-heartedly admitted that Microsoft built far more Surface tablets than the company could possibly sell. And at the same internal Microsoft town hall meeting, he also said the obvious: Microsoft isn't selling as many copies of Windows 8 as it hoped.
It's good that Ballmer has owned up that Microsoft has trouble when it comes to the Surface and Windows 8, albeit in a small, semi-private way. More important now, though, is some sense of how he's going to fix the problem, and in a public way, not semi-privately. People's attitudes towards a product or technology tend to harden over time. The longer that Windows 8 and Surface tablets are seen to be troubled with no solution in sight, the harder it will become for any fix to work.

Wake up call!... M$ have for too long lived in their own little world - thinking they can create a totally new OS and customers will just accept it... manufacturing gazillions of tablets thinking there will be such a great demand? ...times they are a changing - lets see if they can sway with the ill winds that are blowing or if they will stand tall and be uprooted...

I think M$ will try to stand tall they have a lot of cash to burn and then some.

Reality check: Microsoft will make billions as far as the eye can

Agreed. It would be foolhardy to predict the demise of such a behemoth in the short-term... just saying the writing is on the wall.

    Hey Steve:

"Wake me up before you go-go
Don't leave me hanging on like a yo-yo
Wake me up before you go-go
I don't want to miss it when you hit that high
Wake me up before you go-go
'Cause I'm not plannin' on going solo
Wake me up before you go-go
    Take me dancing tonight
I wanna hit that high (yeah, yeah)"

Maybe they can use this video introduction at one of the company mass meetings.

It's kind of funny if you look at their clothing it has a bit of Metro color styling going on.

    Hi everyone...

I love all the comments by the way

Keep this close to your chest if Microsoft windows devision don't turn it around with the brand new build of Windows 9 that FYI is now on Rush or ASAP status and will be rolling out next year in the fall of 2014.

You/We all can kiss Microsoft goodbye in regards to Microsofts OS devision and by 2015 to 2016 Microsoft will be slowly dieing right out of the picture in the next 3 to 5 years...

This is now in the hands in how Windows 9 does peroid

There is lots of stress and lots of folks leaving by the hundreds on their own and by Microsofts choice... These cuts are to save costs...

The folks who believe Microsoft has all this coin behind them and so on better think again...Windows 8 and this SP1 for Windows 8 what Microsoft is calling Windows 8.1 has cost the company billions and still counting and believe me this windows 8 mistake really cost Microsoft lots of money and lots of heart aches.

Microsoft owes lots of coin to partners within the IT world and some of these groups and companies have not been paid by Microsoft for months and some for over a year.

If Microsoft don't get it together with Windows 9 rest assure Microsoft will be in the same ship like BlackBerry is heading and that's down and out at least that's BlackBerry's fate in 2014.

Microsoft made tons of coin made billions and the people on the top got their share and others and ran off and I really do believe that this could also be the end for Microsoft in the very very near future again if they don't step to the plate and do the right thing...
