The Metro hater's guide to the Windows 8.1 Preview

Summary: Are you a desktop diehard? If you've got no use for the Start screen and Metro-style apps, I have some good news for you. Windows 8.1 has a handful of interface tweaks you can make that will put the Windows desktop back in charge. Here's what you need to do to make the preview work like Windows 7 (almost).

Microsoft executives said, Were listening to feedback. Thats a polite way of saying they were trying to avoid being splattered by a barrage of rotten tomatoes.
rofl, well said, and let's hope MS someday learns how to take care of their customers again.

I read somewhere the other day that Microsoft is rumored to be switching to triangular tiles in Windows 9 due to customer feed back. They are listening and making changes accordingly.

Triangular tiles? I hope not I mean maybe it's more interesting than square tiles but tiles in general are just really large boxy icons. Oh well. They need to work on making this windows 8 work better on desktop. I don't mind the tiles so much anymore although I frankly don't prefer them as it is much more annoying to organize.

I'm thinking maybe we could develop an app that groups the tiles so that we can make it interesting?....

Cautious measures are usually incited by triangular shaped signs. Is MS trying to say something?

Nice to see some triangles there + a few circles as well if they're up to it.

Looks better than with rectangles alone.

    Of course.

In theory, still a good addition to the tiles...

    Looks gorgeous!
That might actually work. Make Metro apps one shape, say square. Desktop programs another, say round. And system tools another, maybe triangles.
