There is an option in PC Settings, Search & Apps, Search, Use Bing To Search Online, "Get search suggestions and web results from Bing" < If you turn that off that should kill the adds.

How to Turn On or Off Using Bing with Ads to Search Online in Windows 8.1

    Hi there
Just use alternative search providers -- who even THINKS of using Bing anyway.

You're welcome Kerry. I'm just happy that there's a way to turn it off.

This is the built in search function you access from the charms bar. Microsoft integrated Bing into it so now it also offers up search results from the internet along with what was found on your PC. apparently it serves up adds too. I use Google as my search provider. I was wondering how Microsoft was going to force Bing on us. It always showed up as a recommended update no matter how many times I tried to hide it.

It took me probably 20 minutes to find that setting. I had remembered changing it shortly after installing 8.1 but couldn't remember where it was when I went to make that post. The settings charm is so dependent on what screen your on when you launch it its a PITA some times. I don't use search very often but so far I haven't seen any adds.

Because it's part of the Windows 8 search feature, meaning it's also used to search for your apps on the PC. So when searching for say the control panel, in addition to finding it on the PC, you'll also get some on-line search results....

Anyway this doesn't really come as surprise as I figured this was coming anyway with the Windows 8 live tiles. It's just part of being live all the time, and Microsoft stands to make millions, if not billions in advertisements.

Meh, I'll just ignore the adds by not clicking them. YES, I know there's an option to turn it off.

Did anyone at Microsoft ask users if this is something they want?

Yeah but nobody responded because the servers were down....

Anyway does anybody ask you if you want to be advertised to death?
