The inability to move from Preview to RTM is a shame !

    • If you're running Windows RT you won't be able to restore Windows RT after you install Windows RT 8.1 Preview. You'll be able to upgrade to the final version of Windows RT 8.1. If installation of Windows RT 8.1 Preview fails on your PC, you may need to contact your PC manufacturer.

how does option two make any sense?
Not sure what you mean. What doesn't make sense to you?

It seems dumb, but that is the way it is going to be. You really should only use the preview release on a test system or a vm.

Could it be because of the update installed to do so? Just guessing.

I've got over my ears and yelling Ahhhh! Ahhhh! Ahhhh!

I've got at least another hour to go.

Well, the install completed. Scrambling to find a video driver as it defaults to 640x480. Kinda wierd, as Windows 8 went immediately to 1920x1080 right out of the box, but hey, it's just a preview. Just waiting for the Intel HD 4000 video driver to download.

The Store update is around 50% here. Soon I'll be playing with the Preview.

    ~edit~

It downloaded from the store but failed to install, error code 0x8020002e. That's the first time I've ever had any problems installing an app. It correctly ID'd my setup as it showed Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. I guess I'll wait and see if anybody else has this problem before resorting to installing from the ISO image.

    Hello Kerry,

If able, right click on the app update for more details, and click "Try again" to see if it may install afterwards. I got an error as well, and this allowed it to continue for me.
