8.1 won't be a problem for me. I went back to Win 7.

I'd really like to try the preview but the whole having to reinstall apps and programs when the real version comes out sucks.

If I make an image. then install the preview. then start installing more apps I find in the Windows Store during that preview time. then restore image before the official 8.1 comes out. won't there be inconsistency? my account will say I have all these apps installed (including the ones I picked up during the preview). but after the image wipes it out, my account still thinks I have those apps on my system even though my system actually has a smaller set of apps because of the older image. doesn't this introduce new problems?
I've done a few clean installs and its never been a problem downloading and installing them again. I've had 8 installed on up to three PC's with the same account on each, and each one had a different set of apps installed. If you go to the store and right click on the top of the screen you should get a My Apps list. That will list any apps you have downloaded. Just select the ones your missing after you refresh your image. I've never bought any apps all the ones I've used were free. You may have to go though a few extra steps to restore a paid for app.

yes, I've used that list to download apps to each of my different PCs as the list would show what apps are currently installed on each PC individually (PC1 has apps a, b, c; PC2 has apps a, b, d; PC3 has apps a, e, f).

I was was just wondering what happens when it says PC1 has apps a, b, c, d, e. but the image has apps a, b, c only. If it was going to say, hey, it's already installed and won't let me download.

probably not the case but you think of all the things that can go wrong before you do something.

"My Apps" didn't show me what was installed, it just showed me all the ones I had downloaded under that account name. I'm not talking about the All Apps option in Metro I'm talking about the My Apps screen when you go to the Store.

Look at the tile for each app and it will show if it is installed or if it is not installed.

OK, fair enough, I posted from my Windows 7 desktop so I couldn't actually go and have a look see. I was just going by memory. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
