Hi there
Most of that article is about as understandable to most "normal" users as if it were written in "Jovian" or some other extra terrestrial language-- but the last bits about Booting to desktop and managing multiple applications on several monitors seems good.

Not long to go now before a "proper" preview is available - TechNet and MSDN subscribers should get it soon.

Cheers
jimbo

TechNet and MSDN users will probably get an e-mail announcement when the preview is up. The fact that MS is talking about it more and more seems to indicate that it's very close: I know the public preview will be out in late June but it would be nice ot get it a little sooner.

Modern blah blah modern blah blah modern blah blah. Modern business's do not need or want the 'modern' interface AT ALL. They want and need Windows.

What does this mean - "Springboard Series"? - The Springboard is the Desktop of iOS. Windows 8 (RT) HAS no Springboard, because it has no DESKTOP.

You can use Animated Wallpapers on iOS, can ya do that with 8? Nope - So they should stop trying to use Apple terminology to describe something that is not even similar in 8.

Chill out brah and take a deep breath into a paperbag.

Besides, pretty sure there are animated backgrounds in 8.1. Something about a dragon in the demo video for 8.1.

Haha! Ok I will. I'd rather have a Joint though. Hold your horses, I meant a Beef Joint!

So is this what they are doing? They are stealing bunches of concepts from iOS and now stealing the NAME of the iOS Desktop?

Springboard is the Explorer.exe of iOS - It works in the exact same way, it is the basis of the whole GUI. Just like Explorer.exe is the basis of the entire Windows GUI- Even the Metro Side is run from Explorer. Know why? Because if the Explorer process stops, your Metro Screen stops too.

On iOS, if the Springboard crashes, it has to restart just like Explorer does, it will crash for the same reasons Explorer will crash.

The Only reason why I don't like M$ using the name "Springboard" for their Device 8 OS, is that it is VERY different from iOS Springboard.

Everybody Pans Apple, but then what do they do, they turn around and design Devices, OS's and now NAMES of parts of an OS which are Blatant copies of iOS things.

Anyway - the only way to actually APPLY a animated wallpaper to iOS is to JailBeak. Break. So, 8.1 will have Dreamscape for the Metro Shell eh? Is that what the Dragoon is?

A) Nobody is stealing the word "springboard" for Christs sake. You obviously didn't read the article because that word isn't mentioned anywhere other than the title on this website. Stop freaking out and go to a Mac forum if you are this bent out of shape.

B) the animated background is a FEATURE in 8.1 so again, just be quiet and stop suggesting MS is stealing stuff from Mac.

I just saw the word "Springboard Series" and I was wondering WHY it was being used.

Maybe it is the name of the series of articles the author made, in that context, i'll drop any objections. But in reference to M$ OSes, the use is confusing, because of it's a specific and significant part of iOS and Only iOS. In Windows, it is called Explorer, it's called something else in other OS's

I just don't like the use of coined phrases- It confuses the reader (me, in this case). But in any case, it's the use of Apple Specific Phrases to describe something wholly unrelated. Any other casual reader, after glancing at the title, may initially think the same thing I thought.

I just want to add, I am the LAST person to go on a Pogrom regarding "Apple Design and Name theft" - It was just this use of the word Springboard, used in a article regarding an OS. Otherwise, I can care less if Android or other Phones steal every aspect of Apple design and functionality, it is just a compliment to Apple if it is true anyway. And, I love it when Apple loses some big Court Case regarding "Design Theft" - They simply cannot copyright or Trademark everything in the world which they seem to want to do sometimes.

Sorry as the OP that I wasn't around to explain what "Springboard Series" is; so to make it simple for you "Springboard" is a newsletter that is put out to all Microsoft Technet members along with IT specialists. The purpose is to bring them up to date on what Microsoft is doing to help improve the IT Community. This Newsletter as been out a great deal longer then Apple's use of the term "Springboard."

Oh, by the way I have posted several times over the past couple of years on the "Seven Forums", and here on the "Eights" about this Newsletter and how you can get it via e-mail from Microsoft.

Have a nice day and remember if you read and click on a source that is provided you can learn a lot more. . .
