    Interesting.
Not really, the Guru is Mark Shuttleworth, the man behind Ubuntu, who have gone down a similar path to WIN 8 with the Unity Interface that works across the different form factors. They have annoyed a lot of their users as well.

^ It's not just any Linux user, it's Mark Shuttleworth of Canonical. Perhaps he is just encouraging people to try Windows 8 to attempt to drive more people to alternatives.

Linux Mint is a nice system. Worked straight out of the box for me - picked up on all my Samsung laptop hardware bits, set up the HP printer from the W7 desktop but I've also heard that's not always the case. That has always been the attraction of a Windows system. If hardware doesn't work immediately then there's soon a driver written for it.

Now if only Linux would run the Windows programs I use without the bother of setting a virtual machine on it. I'm talking about the Adobe stuff which I use regularly. Everything else I can get by on happily. Maybe though the Linux community are just too fragmented to start to really work together. If they did then......

Got Fedora and Ubuntu up and running in Oracle V Boxes as we speak. If I get vpn and remote desktop configured and reliably up and running in Fedora all vestiges of 8 is getting blown away from my machine and I'm outta here.

In other words, just drive already Linux using (full or part time users) that either do IT work or some such from Windows to Linux.

So basically, just get the H8ers onto Linux.

    Unity, Blech!

Mark Shuttleworth is the guy "responsible" for Unity.

He is therefore also responsible driving some (many?) established Ubuntu users to other distros (like Linux Mint).

I am not sure how many people here are old enough to remember Microsoft Bob, but it has gone down in history as one of the worst Microsoft products and worst interface blunders of all time. Now, imagine if in 1996, Microsoft decided to ship a version of Windows that included Bob as the default...
