Does Lenovo's high earnings show there's gold in Windows 8

That sounds as if Lenovo really has found a way to use Windows 8 to spark increased sales. But as the Gershwin song goes, it ain't necessarily so. Computerworld reports that a significant reason for high earnings is the company's PC sales in China, saying that Lenovo:
"...has managed to weather the slowdown by taking advantage of the Chinese PC market, where it has an over 30% market share. Close to half of the company's revenue comes from the country, now the world's largest PC market."
So it's not necessarily innovative hardware that's driving growth, but instead Lenovo focusing on its home market, which happens to be the world's largest. In addition, Computerworld reports that Lenovo smartphone sales are up dramatically, helping boost the bottom line. Smartphone shipments increased a whopping 206% compared to a year previous.

Interesting how no one has commented saying that Windows 7 is the reason why Lenovo is doing so well.... :sarc:

Lenovo is really the main OEM I think of that is taking Windows 8 seriously, meaning they're not taking last year's laptop PC and throwing a Windows 8 sticker and 8 Core on it. They built the Yoga a good year or so BEFORE Windows 8 RTM'd and said they won't release it with Windows 7, an 8 exclusive model. They have been building touch AIOs that many people have reviewed as being rather nicely done. Their ThinkPad lineup has been updated for touch input with Windows 8.

Meanwhile over at HP, they're STILL stuck copying apple AGAIN thinking that is what will make them profitable...

Also why I don't recommend HP laptops anymore is because of that apple copying. I mean for crying at loud, at least give them color other than silver!

Because that would be a rather stupid comment, given that there is no data suggesting which OS has featured in the sales.

Yet even here, some have ACTUALLY said that is the reason for Lenovo's success because they shipped lots of Windows 7 PCs and Windows 8 PCs with start menu replacements.
