Users tell Microsoft, keep your Windows 8 Metro apps, we don't want them

Microsoft's new-style "Metro" Windows 8 apps were supposed to draw people to the operating system in droves, but the exact opposite is happening. Just-published research shows that 60% of users don't bother to launch even a single Metro app a day.
This is one more piece of evidence that Microsoft made a serious mistake in designing Windows 8 primarily for touch-based devices, and then bolting that onto a separate desktop-based operating system. At this point, people simply don't care about touch, even when they buy devices like touch-enabled laptops and tablets that are designed for touch.

    Don't worry, RAY.
    8 has been a flop.

There is a new product offering coming.

8.1 will be significantly different. It is a new os. There will be different promotion. It will be on different devices at different price points.

They are keeping the name - but it is a very different offering.

I expect 8.1 will do lot better than 8 - it could hardly do worse.

win7 was a different product offering from Vista.

I wonder if the current 8 adorers will understand that. Perhaps not.

    Here is that new offering.

Mint 15: Today's best Linux desktop (Review)

That's not to say that if you're a Windows 7 or Mac OS X Mountain Lion user you should start downloading Mint now. For desktop users Mint is better than Windows 8 and other new operating systems, such as Fedora 18 with GNOME 3.6, but it doesn't knock the socks off older WIMP-based desktops. It's just much better for experienced desktop users than the newer, user-hostile desktop interfaces as such as Windows 8's Metro.

Were it not for some essential Windows programs, Linux Mint would be my full time OS.

    Mint is great.

Unfortunately, it is not an option for the public.

It is not on the shelves.

MS deals with oems ensures that. Apple have the resources to push out their own expensive devices - but only for the premium end.
