Unfortunately, it is not an option for the public.

It is not on the shelves.

MS deals with oems ensures that. Apple have the resources to push out their own expensive devices - but only for the premium end.
M$ deals with the OEMs may not sound so good any more after the Windows 8 flop.

MS will try and prevent that. They have deep pockets.

Microsoft won't be able to stop Google Chrome, however, and that is its biggest threat. And when you look at it, Google Chrome is providing and expanding on software that provides Office compatible support, et al, it works without requiring a desktop OS (kind of like apps) and all data can be stored 'in the cloud'. Isn't that pretty much what Microsoft is trying to do?

I despise people who touches and leave fingermarks on my screens. I despise much more the people who invented desktop touchscreens.

Agree. In one of my previous jobs, one guy used to always have a need to put his greasy fingers on my monitor to point something out when we were discussing charts etc. I used to hate that, as I always liked to have a clean screen. That's a reason why I also don't like touch screens.

That's where Leap Motion comes into it, another form of touch, but can you imagine doing this all day?

It looks like HP is fed up with M$.

HP CEO talks Android, not Windows 8

Hewlett-Packard CEO Meg Whitman had a lot more to say about the company's new Android products than she did about Windows 8 during HP's second-quarter earnings conference call.

Some say that there is no point to Chrome Books, watch this space, they will be one big part of the changing computer market. Whack an SSD or even an SD slot into a Chrome Book and you've got a computer that will satisfy a huge percentage of the market. It would definitely be an option to consider if my wife's laptop died.

They could start paying OEMs to install W8, instead of charging them for it.
