I have my own gripe about app development. As of now, there are no free libraries for pdf rendering for windows 8 development. The few that are out there are very expensive, and they don't even do a true rendering. They make everything into an image, so you can't really highlight, copy, etc.
Something as simple as controlling the led light on my windows 8 tablet is impossible. There is absolutely no documentation on this at all. None. Zip. I searched and searched to find something so I could insert it into my app. After finding nothing, I emailed a friend of mine, who is a professional dev unlike me who's just an amateur, for help. I happen to know this guy and his capabilities. I dare say he's the best coder I've ever known. And he has a knack for finding obscure documentations that most people can't find. This guy emailed me back the next day telling me there is no documentation for what I was looking for.
Shows us just how much MS cares about the dev community for their winstore.
Windows 8 is a wonderful platform. Unfortunately, MS's lack of interest in helping out the devs is hurting the winstore. The rate of apps being added to the winstore is abysmal. All my inquiries with MS support for what I've been looking for have only been ignored. No response whatsoever. Not even a "we don't know the answer" quick reply.
Which LED light are you referring to?
My understanding of WinRT (the runtime common to both Windows 8 & RT), is that apps are sandboxed. It might be the LED is walled off by design. This is purely conjecture on my part, as I've never done any Windows 8 programming yet.
Which language are you using? I've pretty much decided on the C#/XAML route when and if I ever get around to any Windows 8 coding. There is also the HTML5/Javascript option. C++ is a non-starter for me.
How are you contacting MS support? Online? Phone? I recall, years ago, using an MSDN account in conjunction with online forums, for official MS support. More recently, I've had good luck in the ASP.NET forums.
I had hoped to be writing some apps by now. I have all the tools, but not the time...
