Alpha- 4rthOfJuly said it all, he seems to get what I'm saying.

I saw very few actually working Vista during it's 9 months of being an OS. And those were private consumers, like you. About 2 in 10 of my own customers liked it, so I maintained it for them: SP1 helped, but not much, and SP2 on Vista was a step backward. Didn't they release SP2 AFTER windows 7 was released? I can't recall.

However, the businesses I maintained had ZERO vista boxes. It just is not friendly for businesses.

So I had to maintain Windows XP on those machines, first with SP2 then 3. The first SP3s were terrible, when they released the ISO image it was better.

Then when 7 came out, I was installing it like lightning for all of my business customers.

Now, those same customers are flatly refusing to allow me to put it in, even when I offered once to give them a free upgrade, I would have to donate the license to them.

Clearly Microsoft is Microbrain as Q used to call Worf all the time, they did the EXACT same thing with Windows 8 as with. Vista. Industrial Users are not willing to dik around with an OS that has stuff spread across from Metro to Desktop. The F8 key no longer gets you in to Safe Mode, the shut down button is hard to find, and ya can't even use the regular keys to get in to BIOS, it has to be done via the OS-

This- THIS is BAD design, plain n simple! Getting into BIOS MUST be available outside of the OS! Or at least from inside the OS and as a key press from cold boot.

I tell ya, I hadn't known this, and its BAD. That has to be addressed from both the OS side and the OEM side.

So it is no real mystery that my clients just updated- To Windows 7!

Windows 7 will be the new XP.

Dang- cant edit from my phone: I meant to say the business users flatly refused windows 8 even when I offered to donate it to them.

OK, originally I was thinking your "grievous errors" comment was directed at the corporations and people using Windows. That they were making another grievous error buy not buying into Windows 8.
Now I'm thinking you were actually meaning to say Microsoft made the grievous errors in the way it developed Windows 8. Have I got it right now?

    I'm shocked!

There are a bunch of people here, who seem to insist that phones and tablets can do everything that desktops can do ... only better.

I think the better way to state it is.

Phones and tablets do enough for most people and they are cheap enough and portable enough to meet their needs.

You are correct, but some people don't seem to grasp the difference (hence my comment).

It's no complaint against phones or tablets, its just the way the App works, which is the way the Mobile Site works, can't edit from it. Some forums when used in Mobile mode will append your last post, these forums don't work like that.

I use the Android WindowsEight Forums app on my Droid X2. One can edit one's post by tapping on the post, choose "Modify" on the menu, then push edit.

I didn't mean to imply that you were complaining about phones or tablets.

It was just a strange coincidence.
Earlier, my housemate had commented about the number of forum posts (he's seen) that say, "I can't edit my previous post because I'm using my phone."

I don't remember anyone ever saying this. But try to think of it this way.

Suppose you're going to take a long trip with your spouse. You're going to want to take pictures. So, you bring along your camera. You're gonna want to shoot videos, so you bring along your video camera. Between destinations, you'll be sitting on the train for hours, so you're gonna want to do things like browsing the web, playing games, emails, perhaps work on that autobiography of yours, etc. So, you bring along your laptop. There will be times when you and your spouse will rent a car to drive around the town you're visiting, so you bring along a gps. At times, you will want to listen to music, so you bring along your cd or mp3 player. You will also want to be able to keep in contact with people, so you bring along your phone.

There was a time when people had to bring all of that. Nowadays, I just bring along my galaxy phone and tablet/laptop hybrid for all those things.

But hang on a second. A camera works infinitely better than a smartphone when it came to taking pictures. A video camcorder works infinitely better than a phone when you're shooting videos. Your xbox or ps3 is way better at playing games than your tablet. Document editing and browsing/emailing works infinitely better with a laptop or a desktop than a tablet.

The point isn't that the tablet works better with all those things. It just needs to work just good enough so we don't have to carry around 20 pounds worth of devices to do all those things.

A few months ago, my place got burglarized. They took my i7 desktop. I've been procrastinating at getting another desktop, so I just started plugging my hp envy x2 (a hybrid) into my large monitor and work from that. No, of course a desktop PC would work way better than this baby. But this thing works just good enough for me to not have any incentive to go out and buy another desktop. I can even play starcraft off of this thing from time to time. Battery lasts 12-14 hours, so I don't care about finding an outlet during the day. I use it to scan in documents to email them to people. No need to take a trip to the scanner.

I've found that tablet or hybrid haters haven't really tried to use these devices to make their lives easier. They insist that the desktop is still better to use, which I agree with. But the fact that I've been going strong with just this hybrid since January proves that it can be done. The x2 works just good enough for me to get things done.

Why don't you get one and try to use it for a week or so before caricaturizing how we use our hybrids.
