"Windows 8.1 will be a packaged set of updates which customers can say when they are ready (to deploy)," she said.
A lot of people have Auto Update turned on, so by using the Store the user has controll on when to install.

Only important updates are installed automatically. 'Optional' updates are unchecked by default.

So, if Reller's serious about giving users choice, then they will need to make it available by some other means other than Windows Store.

No service packs are available yet

No service pack has been released for Windows 8 yet
, but by turning on Windows Update you can make sure you receive it automatically as soon as it is available.

Here we go again. They give it to you for free and people complain that it comes through the Store. Why don't you guys just stay on Windows 7.

Or, they could just release it through Windows Update and ISO/MSI like they used to. Why use Windows Store?

I don't know why they decided to use the Store. Maybe to help cut down of piracy. This way you need an installed copy of Windows 8 to get the update. But that's their choice how they offer it. After all it is FREE. There has been rumors that MS will start offering Desktop programs through the Store also, so maybe this is the first step.

I must admit when I first saw this, I wasn't too bothered about it being in the Store.

But then it occurred to me - how will you find the genuine "Windows 8.1" amongst everything else in the Store?

It's not like you can filter to only see things published by Microsoft - or if you can, it's so "intuitive" I haven't figured out how to do it. I know you can search for the word "Microsoft" but that brings up lots of stuff not published by them, in the same way as searching for "Facebook" brings up lots of things not created by Facebook.

Searching for "Windows 8" just now brought 3,438 apps. Imagine having to search through even half of that number to find the real "Windows 8.1"!

Maybe it will show up as an App Update. I am sure we will be told when it is released.

If I decided to comment on the article, then I read it first. Most of the time I ignore most Windows 8 News threads as there is too much complaining about Windows 8 and no real information.
