Windows Blue gets official name: Windows 8.1

Good to see that Microsoft has settled on a name for Blue. Wonder if they will continue down this path in the way Apple did with OS X. Have read sometime back that this is the new way of working with the Windows OS (Windows 8.1, .2, .3. etc).

I'm sure nobody cares if they change the naming convention to anything. It's the GUI everybody cares about which they changed drastically. :p

I don't think they will quite follow apple the way like os x. It's primarily because of Windows Phone in this case. Since they both share the WinRT app model core and several other things, they must keep Windows and Windows Phone on a synced update cycle. Also, I think I remember back with Windows Phone 7, the update revision seems like it could be the same as Windows. It went from 7, 7.1, 7.5, and now 7.8 in about a two year span; then came Windows Phone 8. I doubt Microsoft will give Windows 8 a mac os x time span of several years with each year being a 10.xx revision update. Most likely, it could be Windows 8.5 next year, the year after that will be Windows 9.

But whatever they do, it will be in sync with Windows Phone.

They really went all out on this name. The codename is actually better in this case. Now they just keep naming stuff with numbers. Although I guess that's easier for people to keep up.

I'm sure there will be a lot of bets as to whether or notthe Start Button will come back. I'm guessing that it will. There have beenmany who said that MS is to stubborn to come back with it since they have made up their mind that itis history. That could be. However, if they think that it will increase sales, they may bring it back. Money (profits) can override stubbornness.

Indeed it is. A number is much more easy to follow in terms of revision than a random name. I was happy that they resumed the numbering with 7. Xp and Vista never coped very well. "Windows eXPerience"? Geez.
